  • Recommend Me Some Good Books

For the past 6 or 7 months I've been reading a lot more than I usually do and I'm looking for more.

I've read the Dune books and really loved most of them.

I'm in the process of reading the Earth Chirldren's series which started with Clan of the Cave Bear and I'm really loving them so far.

I read Thomas B. Costain's The Plantagenets series The Conquering Family , The Magnificent Century , The Three Edwards and The Last Plantagenets which i really loved. His story telling style is great combined with the history of the period.

I've seen a couple On Amazon and at the Library but knowing most people here are well read I'm looking for books in a series that link together. People keep encouraging me to dip into the Harry Potter series but I've resisted it so far.

That's what I'm afraid of but I hate to get a book and not read the whole thing.

Berlin noir by Philip Kerr was a fun read:

Now published in one paperback volume, these three mysteries are exciting and insightful looks at life inside Nazi Germany -- richer and more readable than most histories of the period. We first meet ex-policeman Bernie Gunther in 1936, in March Violets (a term of derision which original Nazis used to describe late converts.) The Olympic Games are about to start; some of Bernie's Jewish friends are beginning to realize that they should have left while they could; and Gunther himself has been hired to look into two murders that reach high into the Nazi Party. In The Pale Criminal, it's 1938, and Gunther has been blackmailed into rejoining the police by Heydrich himself. And in A German Requiem, the saddest and most disturbing of the three books, it's 1947 as Gunther stumbles across a nightmare landscape that conceals even more death than he imagines.

I really liked Orson Scott Card's political thriller: Empire

But lately, I've been concentrating on histories and historical fiction.

Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

                      Just started rereading it.

He just published a sequel to that, did he not?

I was a bit disappointed at the ending to Pillars of the Earth, but overall it was a great book.

I'm reading Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson, It's part one of The Malazan Book of the Fallen.

Just started yesterday, and I'm already hooked.

All the George RR Martin fans need to look into these books.

                            ACK!
