    I'm trying to think of a word. It describes something that is incredably annoying that I can't get rid of no matter what I do.
    You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

            Albatross (or "albatross around your neck")

            Millstone

            Ball and chain

            Do any of these phrases work? Can you think of what the etymology might be? (Greek, Latin, French etc.)
