Hillbilly Heroin

So my wisdom teeth were brutally torn from my skull on Tuesday. The doc gave my a prescription for Oxycodone (same thing as Oxycontin according tow Wikipedia). Maybe it's just my age, but I'm wondering what all the fun is about. I take some, then I kinda get sleepy and brain addled for three hours, then the pain comes roaring back. I'm only supposed to take one pill every four hours, but in that doesn't stop the pain, at all. One and half pills every three (and I can only sleep for three hours because then the pain wakes me) is what I'm working on.

When I was taking Vicodan earlier this year, the effect was wonderful. I wasn't in a euphoric state, but all my stress was gone, and as stressed out as I had been at the time, the feeling was incredible. I frankly hadn't realized how stressed out I was until it was gone for that week.

I'm not getting that from the hillbilly heroin. I;m still stressed, and on top of that, I'm itchy all over. Plus I get these waves of sudden sleepiness, where I'll be in the middle of something, then half pass out, then come too about ten minutes later.

And I'm hot, even though my PC is running cool and the thermostat says it's only about 70.

Where's the fun? Why is this stuff the new drug of choice for the trailer park set?

Maybe it's because you're in real pain that the buzz doesn't come through. The other possibility is that you're more opiod tolerant now than when you took the Vicodin.
Dosage also has to be considered. Vicodin is hydrocodone whic is generally rated at 2/3 to 4/5 as potent as oxycodone. That means that 7.5 mg pf hydrocodone is about as good as 5 mg of oxycodone. If you.ve been given 5 mg Oxycodone, but previously you were taking 10 mg Vicodin then the Vicodin would have been more powerful.

It's also obvious that you're not a hillbilly. You need one of those Marxist opiods. Have you considered Roman Catholicism?

I might add that I've had all of my 3rd molars removed, not to mention several other dental surgeries, yet I never needed to take narcotics afterwards. Have you tried not thinking about the pain?

I did. Didn't work. Best I could manage was to keep reminding myself that pain is simply neurons squirting chemicals at each other and that I'm not suffering any real damage at the moment. I lasted about three hours of that before I gave in. It's not the missing teeth that hurt so much as the rest of my head. It's like I have a massive migraine.

I had the same experience after having my wisdom teeth extracted -- the narcs just made me groggy and mildly nauseous. I got off them as soon as I could. Good old acetominophen is a much better pain releiver than it gets credit for.
