i think we should premeptively bardcode-tag all Mexicans (before they think about passing the border). Amazon has barcodes on all its books before they ordered. why shouldnt we do the same?

I think Huckabee has managed to trump himself:

But I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that’s what we need to do — is to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view of how we treat each other and how we treat the family.
Although "stupid" may not be right word. "Scary"?

Oh, please dear God, let him win the Republican nomination.

Frankly, although it's certainly rather extreme and perhaps badly worded, it's not a poor sentiment. The federal government is NOT particularly organized, at least the portions i've dealt with, and could stand to make a much more substantial effort to pay attention to this sort of thing ... and this is coming from someone who does not agree with the republican platform on immagration in the slightest

I read that as "Amazon has a financial incentive to pay attention to where its books are, so it pays attention. The Federal Government needs to take that attitude, rather than being lax on the job." Certainly we can't have people barcode scanned, or whatever, but we easily could have non-citizens check in when they enter the country, check in once a month or six months or year depending on the length of their visa/green card, and check in when they leave... that's not unreasonable, is it? It would make law enforcement easier, if there were a terrorism problem like many people are scared of, and would help make tracking down people who overstay their visit easier by quite a lot...

No, the terrifying thing is that, if elected, he might actually bring about things like that.

Kucinich is funny because if he were elected Congress [and everyone else] would just ignore him. Huckabee is dangerous because they wouldn't.

Has somebody ever explained to this guy that the bible was composed by humans in 600 AD with the sole purpose of propagating the catholic church as the only church ? (vs the gnostics that is ?)

That guy should never even come close to a position of authority.

You better hope more people don't figure it out, or else they'll stop paying taxes and you will be out of a job.

Not that it makes it any better or anything, but I think the statement is just empty pandering. I doubt he really thinks that it's possible to track immigrants like shipping crates, saying it just makes for a nice little soundbite for the anti-immigrant, closed border crowd. Plus, he likes to be seen as the down-to-earth jokey candidate -- this is sort of in that vein.

There was no such thing as a Catholic before the schism.

Yes, as were a lot of other books that weren't included in the bible because they didn't fit in the politics of the growing roman based church.

So who is to decide what exactly the uncencored "words of the living god" are/were.

It wasn't as simple as "these will help us spread the church and those will make us seem weird." The gospels that were chosen were the ones with the information that most agreed about. The ones that were excluded usually had information written in them that few others agreed with and were therfore unreliable. BTW, the books were chosen in Nicea under Constintine, not under the Roman Church 300 years later.

The books were being discussed in the earliest nonNT writings we have, from ~100 AD.
