  • Any people who ski or snowboard out there

cause I just had the most amazing weekend. I was in Fernie ( British Columbia Canada) http://www.skifernie.com/ for two days with 5 other guys. We had a condo right on the hill-- the type where you ski from your condo down to the lift-- and we got it for free

The weather was perfect and the snow was superb. They have lots -- so much so that parts of hill have been closed while they do avalanche work-- but almost everything was open when we visited

The hill was perfect !! It had a good mix of groomed runs, moguls or other bumpy stuff and some great deep untracked powder. I had never really done deep powder before and its just amazing to be going through stuff thats knee or waist deep-- Its even more amazing to do a spectacular crash and land in its fluffy softness

To all of you that have never had the skiing bug you probably don`t understand-- But to those of you that have-- you understand the weekend I had

I like snowboarding, I have always gotten exhausted after 4 hours though... and I only went a couple times a year when I went (and haven't been for 3 years, finances).

I do plan on going again when I start making more money.

I found that there was a huge differnece between the fake snow places on the east coast (on little hills, not even mountains) and the nice mountain slopes with fresh snow in the mountains in the west coast.

Even in the west there are big differences. fernie is known for its very deep and light snow ( Apparently Its not uncommon to be able to power through drifts deeper than your waist) I believe the ``made snow`` hills tend to be warmer so its harder packed with bigger tendency to be icy

If you have never skiied real powder before, you really have to give it a try-- Its a very different experience from the groomed trails.

Fernie would be a good hill for boarders too since there are hardly any flat spots. That cuts down on the hard work-exhaustion factor

          I have done powder before.

In Oregon I went to Mt Bachelor and Mt Hood, which are the only two places that I consider good (that I have went to). The other places were in MN or PA and were sort of crap (at least the Minnesota place had real snow, I Think).

You are likely right, even if there was snow on the gruond, in minnesota it seems to blow so it isn't deep in most places.

Nope, and it might have been in wisconsin.

It was near a river, I think.

Sure, I've been snowboarding since... 94? 95? Before that, I was on skis so... pretty extensive background. Yeah, some days are magnificent.

I myself, I like the early morning, where I'm alone with perhaps one or two friends, on top of the hill and NO ONE else is there. It's sooo quiet, little dark, it's like being born to then start blasting. First you go with ease, kind of cruise around... get your muscles warmed up and stuff. Nothing but you, darkness and the snow. You're free, alone and the illusion of the situation is powerful. I used to live for that stuff. It's really food for soul. I mean you're so peaceful and the only thing you feel is amazing and "enjoy this. This moment is special." .... and it is. It can't be explained really. You either know or you don't know. I'd rank it very high, even higher than average sex.

I'm right now leaving for a ski afternoon with my family. My 5-years-old is already a really good skier. Lamentably, skiing becomes more expensive every year, so it's a question of money already.

I should hope so. Can't be much fun doing it indoors.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
