Boy glues hand to bed to avoid school

MEXICO CITY - A 10-year-old Mexican boy dreaded returning to school after Christmas break so much that he glued his hand to his bed. Sandra Palacios spent nearly two hours Monday morning trying to free her son Diego's hand with water, oil and nail polish remover before calling authorities, police chief Jorge Camacho told The Associated Press from outside the northern city of Monterrey.

"I didn't want to go to school because vacation was so much fun," Reforma newspaper quoted the boy as saying.

Palacios said Diego sneaked into the kitchen in the early morning to get the industrial glue, which he then slathered on his right hand. She didn't hear him get up, but later awoke and found him watching TV with his hand stuck to the bed, she told Mexican newspaper El Universal.

"I don't know why he did it," she told Reforma. "He's a good boy, but mischievous like all kids."

Diego's hand was fine, and paramedics managed to unstick him in time for class.

I'm wondering though if vacation is still "so much fun" when you are tied to your bed all the time

Depends on which hand you glued to the bed.

They should have let him sit there with his hand glued to the bed a couple of days. Teach the kid a lesson .

I'm thinking about 3-4 hours after he needs to go the bathroom would convey the lesson pretty well

When did journalism reach such a low that AP stories aren't checked for grammar...

"sneaked" is not the past tense of "to sneak".

Yeah, pendantic dicks prefer "sneaked" over "snuck". ("snuck" also has the honor of being the most recent English irregular verb)

Hmm, you learn something every day. "Snuck" is american english, while "Sneaked" is british english (and technically proper American english).

Still, 'Sneaked' sounds wrong, and Garrison Keilor uses "snuck". If it's good enough for Garrison Keilor it should be good enough for the AP

Garrison Keilor frequently uses informal grammar. If you're interested in the subject you might like to read Stephen Pinker's Words and Rules, which draws a lot of interesting observations out of the history and structure of irregular verbs.

i say 'snuck' because i'm so used to hearing it, but type 'sneaked' because that is the word i'd come across in novels.
