I feel the phantom vibration even when Ive left my phone at home. I work with petrol hand tools that vibrate, and i cant hear the phone because of the motor running, so I get it pretty much every day. Its very annoying.

i have few times. my phone is almost always on vibrate. when i first got the phone the vibration would make me jump. LOL. but now it's whatever. a few times when i'm expecting a text or call i'll think it vibrated, but it didn't.

I've been almost always keeping my phone on vibrate for a while now, and I'm starting to have the phantom vibrations too. It's usually only when I'm expecting a call, though sometimes it's at entirely random times too.

            Nice.

When you take a step back, for the ordinary person very few things are important enough to justify calling someone while away from a phone at home or work.

The cell phone craze reflects an artificially created need, but since it caters to the deeply narcissistic trends of our time, it will surely continue to grow.

            Just kindly count me out.

              Just kindly count me out.

Here's cases where I've found it indispensable:

I'm at the mall and I see a game my brother had been looking for but no one has it in stock. I call him to see if he wants me to pick it up for him.

I'm out shopping, and so is the SO, but at different places. He's to meet me at the mall at some point, but I don't know when due to traffic, lines, etc. He calls me when he's there and we arrange to meet.

It's January and it's -20 out side with heavy winds, and my car won't start due to a dead battery at 2am. I call for a jump since no one else is around.

I don't have a landline at all. It's kind of pointless and I get local calling anywhere in Canada on my plan.

I'm stuck at a play and I'm desperate to know if my hockey team is winning. I check scores.

I have my door buzzer go to my cell phone, so I can answer the door and let people in the building even if I'm not there. I can also tell the delivery people to just let me pick it up at the depot rather than having them try the next day and day after to deliver as well.

I'm out on the town and get a call telling me my dad's been hospitalized. I can rush over to the hospital to see him.

On the weekends where I'm "on duty" and need to be available to be contacted, I can still go out and do everything since I've got my cellphone to be contacted by.

If, for whatever reason, I do not wish to be disturbed I turn off the ringer and vibrate and I'll check my missed calls later. I can also screen my calls readily with caller ID to not answer people I don't wish to talk to.

My SO moves every 4 months due to school, so switching landlines is expensive and impractical. He's got a cell phone that works no matter where he is.

To say all the needs are artificial is asinine. If you don't see the purpose of cell phones, then you're simply dense.

My phones crazy, it does this quite regularly, sometimes it even throws in a phantom single ring without registering a call for a laugh.
Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

I find somethings rub together in my pocket and completely resemble my phone vibrating, to discover the same thing.

That's pretty cool. How'd you set that up?

The hockey scores thing is very much a luxury though. You could say its a necesity for a true Canadian, but a true Canadian would be watching the game

It can be hooked up to any phone number. I just used my cell #. Pressing "9" when it calls me unlocks the door, anything else does nothing.
