  • Nanites vs. Piconites: Which are Better for Healing?

    Everyone:

So, just what the subject line asks. Nanites work with things on the scale of nanometers, while piconites work with things on the even smaller scale of picometers (basically, atomic and subatomic-sized structures).

Which would be best for repairing/fixing/upgrading wounds, DNA and whatnot in human beings?

Anyone here wanna take a stab at answering this question? As to why I'm curious, it's because I'm doing a bit of "fun" writing on the topic (i.e., storytelling) and want to make it as realistic as possible.

I don't see how anyone could build a complex machine below the nanometer scale.

It's not currently feasible — strictly theoretical and in the realm of science fiction. That said, I'd think a nanite is better at repairing the human body, because it'd be able to do things at the cellular and molecular level, while a piconite is much smaller, too small, perhaps, to be of much use with larger structures.

IMO, we already have the only possible 'piconites'.

        They're known as 'molecules'.

Although I guess lasers could be considered 'machines'??

Nanites on the grounds it's always them in sci-fi stuff rather than the pico chaps.

We know that carbonites are better at freezing stuff.

If we have the technology for submolecular engineering, whoever's walking around in human body is just asking for trouble anyway

                      By what theory?

I wouldn't grant it "theoretical" status, only hypothetical/speculative.

Well, yes, that's probably more accurate, Perfection. In fact, I think just about the only reference online to piconites is a Wiki stub that found under nanotechnology, or something like that.
