It was immediately after the Soviet days. The principal had a deaf daughter, so instead of finding a school for her, she started one. Foreign funding, deaf and normal kids in the same class, Montessori methods. Got too expensive after 1.5 years, so my parents had me transfered to a public one.
I don't think there are many Montessori schools in Russia. Public schools are the most prevalent form of schools, and most private schools use the same methods as public schools. Most of those who don't are for rich spoiled brats. Only a small handful of private schools use experimental teaching methods.

Give credit where credit is due. Your parents' children's intelligence has more to do with your parents' children's ancestors than anything else.

I'd say it's a combination of genetics and environment, just like every other human trait.

                  Counterexample: eye color.

IQ depends heavily on the environment. The Flynn Effect pretty much proves this. That's also why IQ tests are culturally biased against African people and in favour of Asians and Ashkenazi Jews.

                          It's interesting stuff.

Actually, if we take intelligence to be merely an indicator of genetic fitness, due to the genetic complexity inherent in its production, then the Flynn effect can be seen as a natural and inevitable outcome of the better medicine we have today, without necessarily saying anything about environment and its effect on IQ.
