Regional stereotypes and rivalry in your countries
To be fair, living in Brighton, I think King's Cross Station is a bit too far north for my tastes.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
-Richard Dawkins

Finns are usually characterized as being quiet, serious, diligent and humble. This description is only partly true. Most Finns "know" that a Savolainen (a person originating from the Savo region) is chatty and convivial and a Karjalainen (a person originating from Karelia) is emotional and laughs very much.
Those are regional stereotypes, or "tribal differences", as they are known in Finland. In the context of today's Finland, a tribe is a group of people who identify with a province of Finland. A tribe is not an ethnically distinct unit — genetically Finns are very homogenous — but a cultural and mental construction.
Finnish tribes (location and blatant stereotypes in parenthesis) include Carelians (east: easy-going, very very talkative, social), people of Savo (south-east: talkative), people of Satakunta (central western Finland), Nylanders (south: unbearable to anyone except themselves, think they and the capital are the hub of the world), people of Kainuu (northern Finland: quiet, withdrawn), Ostrobothnians (western Finland: stingy, unpredicatable, violent; carry knives), people of Häme (central Finland: slow-witted), Lapplanders (extreme north: uncultured outdoorsmen). About ten percent of Finns are ethnic Swedes (southern and western Finland: cultured, well-educated, well-todo - they think they are better than the rest).
Hi
I am a travel agent, and do get the chance to travel around
in europe and further. I was in Scandinavia last vacation and
tried to see as much ans speak to as many people as i
possibly could, time allowing. My conclusion based on my
experience is that, the danish, norwegians and icelandic
people are the relatively racist, while the finnish are trying
hard to be as diplomatic as the swedish. We are learning
from the english. The irish, welsh and scottish are as racist
as the danish, this could be explained by their common roots
from the viking days.
And doing business with them is as complicated, cause i find
them very demanding, checking and re-checking all the
details with every deal. Where can i start ?
Goodbye
Worst thing about Australian rivalries is we can't even generate cultural uniqueness out of it. Queensland, in North Eastern Australia is likened to the American south. We're the rednecks apparently. In return, Queensland refers to southerners as Mexicans.
In Sweden it's a well known fact that people from the north are calm, thoughtful and very trusting. They don't say much but they're good honest people.
People from Stockholm are generally quite rude, condecending and very stressed. They also have a ironic and jaded sense of humour. They call it fresh and edgy, but it's really just lame and vulgar...
Gothenburg OTOH is a very nice, warm and welcoming city with a leisurly pace and people who don't look at you like you're something they scraped off the sole of their shoe. A vibrant underground culture and a more down to earth sort of humour that borders on slapstick. It's also the word pun capital of Sweden
People from up the coast of Gothenburg are inbred fishmermen who are very strictly religious (think Calvinism)
People from Jönköping are jesus freaks, they burn heathens, gays and other sexual deviants on the stake if given half the chance.
People from Småland are stingy and hard working.
People from Skåne are quite slow and utterly racist farmers that can't speak properly due to their close ties with Denmark. They eat soup made of goose blood and hunt immigrants for sport.
When I went to New England back in the summer, I found out that many people there thought that there was no modern civilization in existence in Indiana and all Hoosiers, people from Indiana, live on farms.
When I moved here, I found out that many people thought all Volunteers, people from Tennessee, is a hillbilly that speaks with an appalachian accent. That is a description that belongs to an area which is only a small portion is located in Tennessee.
The only regional rivalry I can think of around here is that between Southern Indiana and Kentucky.
In Tennessee there is a rivalry between Memphis and Nashville.
Ontario has the capital region, and the center of the country. Most of the industries are based here in a narrow strip from Windsor to Ottawa. The rest of the province like most of Canada is sparsely populated. The West and Quebec see themselves as hard done by Ontario, and they feel that they are the centre of the universe and that everything revolves around them.
Because it does.
The west is redneck country and Quebec is cute in a pathetic kind of way.
There's a rivalry between different parts of BC, the north and the south, the south has the biggest cities, while the north is very rural. Again, the north feels left out of the decisions while the city feels that there's nothing important outside of them.
Northern BC is pretty close to my version of hell on earth.
With our sports teams there are old rivalries between the hockey and football teams, most of the major cities have either a hockey or a football team, and some have both.
Football doesn't matter outside the west.

Quite sad really.
And Tasmania is the land of two heads due to inbreeding.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.
