  • It's official: It's Bush's fault Congress got nothing done this year

I mean, even when he reaches out and works closely with Congress on bills of critical importance, and Congress gives in to his larger demands on them, he *still* vetoes them.

Bush to veto defense spending bill

At issue is a provision of the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act that could let people with legal claims alleging brutality from Saddam Hussein and his forces recover damages from the current Iraqi government. That element of the bill prompted the Iraqi government to threaten to withdraw $25 billion of Iraqi assets from U.S. banks, White House officials told CNN.

The Democratic leaders said that Bush worked closely with Congress on the bill and "gave no indication prior to its passage that one section of the bill could generate a presidential veto."
If this was such a problem, you idiot, why not, I don't know, say something beforehand?

The margins by which this bill was passed assure this veto will be overridden, but this still says a lot about the sad state of the man in the Oval Office. Hopefully the nation will recognize this come next November and vote accordingly...

If the Iraqis have $25 billion, why are we giving them money?

Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

      That's $25 billion, not $25.

We're giving them money because it's mere taxpayer money, while Iraqi deposits are in banks owned by Bush supporters.

        Yay for being uninformed!

No one noticed until the Iraqis pointed out (after Congress couldn't change it) that there was this problem section. Bush has to veto it so Congress can pass it again without the specific problem section. So, what's the problem again? It has pay raises yeah, but they'll make sure to make those retroactive.

The White House Legislative Affairs office is a complete basketcase. They've been fairly awful over the past few years. Smooth relations with Congress have never been a priority for Bush, even when the Republicans controlled everything.
If you look around and think everyone else is an *******, you're the *******.
