  • Bellatrix LeStrange and Capt Jack Sparrow take on Snape and Pettigrew

To tell the truth, Id never actually seen the musical, Id only listened to the original cast album. But I was definitely expecting something lighter than Tim Burton gave us, and surely not so much blood.

Still, I kind enjoyed it, though QOTM was a tad shaken up.

Seeing as the tag line is "Demon Barber of Fleet Street", I'd think gore was to be expected . I haven't seen the musical either, but I know it's very violent. Here is where reading reviews may have helped in preperation .

After seeing the movie I went back and checked a Youtube of "A piece of Priest" from the stage version with Cariou and Lansbury. Burton cut some of the more lighthearted humor and wordplay from that song ("tailor? Pailer? butler? Subtler? Locksmith? ....") I really dont think the musical was QUITE that dark or gorey - if you check the wiki, Burton I think says that the stage versions were wrong to shy away from the blood to the extent they did.

Well, it's a bit harder to capture gore on the stage.

And, as pointed out, the reviews were clear on that score.

It was Christmas eve, we had picked up a friend of POTMs, rushed to the movies, they ran in to see National Treasure. QOTM and I were gonna see one of the two Afghanistan movies, but by that point it was too late for the showings that matched up with the NT showing. So I see Sweeney Todd is showing, think Sondheim, Johny Depp, lets see it.

And now your wife is going to be very wary of the movies you choose .

Yah, well, there was the time we were in a similar rush, and she suggested "Turistas", over my objections, and it was quite as gorey, and also, unlike Sweeney, pure trash. Generally my judgement has been better, but Ive only lost a point or two (and she DID admit the music, setting, etc were good, etc)

BTW, did you recognize the quote in the above post?

Id still like to see the Afghanistan movies - Ive read BOTH books.
