Why are textbooks so obscenely expensive in the USA?

to be fair that probably makes the teaching and learning marginally more difficult than if everybody used the same text and could literally be on the same page on the syllabus. I'm not sure it's worth extra hundreds of dollars per student though.
I spend, at the most, around a hundred dollars a semester on textbooks. And I usually buy ten textbooks a semester - two for each subject. And that's because I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to learning - it is possible to get by with only five or six books per semester - around, say fifty to sixty dollars, tops.

Is there any place in India where there is something like the mediterranean climate? That is, where the winters are mild and the summers are hot but bearably hot (low humidity)? Just curious.

If you are thrifty in the US, you can pass some classes by just taking notes. Literature classes are also easy because you can just find the books in digital form online.

I've actually bought indian textbooks to save money, and a lot of the time they are written on trashy paper, Indians probably don't notice that because they don't have good paper.
Textbooks are expensive because no one really cares enough to make them cheaper. Hell, people don't even care enough to make gas cheaper and that's a much bigger problem.

You can get those same textbooks for $4.95 that you'd get in India here in the US. Hell you'd probably get them from a free box here. The problem is getting the instructors to structure the courses so you're not at a serious disadvantage for studying from a different textbook from all of the other students.
People in India are **** broke. The books have to be cheaper, like everything else.
