I spend, at the most, around a hundred dollars a semester on textbooks. And I usually buy ten textbooks a semester - two for each subject. And that's because I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to learning - it is possible to get by with only five or six books per semester - around, say fifty to sixty dollars, tops.Originally posted by Geronimo
to be fair that probably makes the teaching and learning marginally more difficult than if everybody used the same text and could literally be on the same page on the syllabus. I'm not sure it's worth extra hundreds of dollars per student though.

I get all textbooks for classes I teach at a community college, free of charge, and plus, I am allowed to keep them once I'm done teaching.

You can get those same textbooks for $4.95 that you'd get in India here in the US. Hell you'd probably get them from a free box here. The problem is getting the instructors to structure the courses so you're not at a serious disadvantage for studying from a different textbook from all of the other students.Originally posted by Whaleboy
