  • Comptroller General of the USA predicting economic collapse

Not being a professional economist, I can't comment on how much of what this person is saying is true, and how much is exaggeration. However, given the seriousness of his words, and given his position, I think this is something which should be discussed.

He is basically predicting the economic collapse of the economy of the USA if nothing is done to fix the impending problems.

Erm... He's just an accountant. Should we remain interested?

If the accounting department of your company told you that bankruptcy was imminent, would you remain interested?

The economy is not a company. That's why accountants are not economists.

Why would I want to hear a bunch of crap from someone pretending to be an expert?

This thread is meant to discuss what he says and predicts in that video. If you don't want to watch it, fine, but then you won't be able to contribute anything meaningful here, because you have no clue what is being discussed.

Secondly, I doubt that he is merely "pretending" to be an expert. I don't think you can reach such a post without actually being an expert in the field.

Remember, the post is one where a person is appointed, not elected, so in general, we can expect a better calibre of people to occupy it.

Look here. If you want to make an argument then do it. But if you want to use someoene pretending to be an expert instead of an actual expert then I will take issue with that.

He is an expert in accounting, don't you understand! Furthermore, accountants are the last people that you want to ask about such things except for of course, "what are the numbers?" That's what they do, produce numbers.

That's right. It's his job to keep the accounts of the Federal Government. And he's saying that they're headed for bankruptcy.

I have to agree with Kid here. There is a reason for economics and for accounting. Generally accountants profess an understanding of economics that they just don't have.

That's when you shake your head like this so that he can go back and do his job.
