Actually we want tougher diplomatic pressure, and serious sanctions, so that Iran caves in, like Mouammar Ghadaffi, and decides to stop their nuclear research plans.

Obviously war is a crazy idea and should be used as last resort.

And war threats are a viable (Though possibly not always the best) way to make the Iranians rethink.

Iranian officials have said so numerously.

Iran wages a proxy war against Israel via Hezbullah, and various palestinian factions it controls (Islamic Jihad) or support (Hamas) or controls via Hezbullah (Al-Aqsa Martyrs).

This has been going on for ... oh... since the inception of Hezbullah in 1983, and the inception of the Islamic Jihad around 1979.

Israel has had no trouble being friendly with Iran prior to the revolution, and even for some time afterwards.

It's not like Israel said "hey, let's pretend they have nukes so we can hate them".

edit: Siro - I'm generally "pro-Israel" wrt middle east matters but in this case I get the unmistakable feeling Israel is down right pissed the US attack on Iran that Israel would so like to see is becoming less likely by the day. I can just imagine how people who aren't supporters of Israel must see this.
