  • Things to do in Yuba City, CA?

I guess Marysville is pretty close too. A friend of mine is getting married in Yuba City this weekend so a bunch of the old college friends will all be in NorCal together. Anyone know of anything cool or interesting to do in that area? I'm hoping it is more then just the hick farming town I expect it to be.

    Bicentennial Living Witness Tree
On Highway 99 in Live Oak, a Valley Oak has been identified as being over 200 years old, standing at the time of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. It is one of 35 such trees identified nationwide.

    Bok Kai Temple
In 1854, five years after the first contingent of Chinese arrived in California to work in the gold mines, a temple to house and worship their gods was erected. The current temple, built in 1880, remains the focus of the Marysville Chinese community and is the only one of its kind in the United States.

        Here's more detail.

        also: Ellis Lake, Marysville
In 1924, John McLaren, designer of Golden Gate Park, presented plans for transforming an existing swamp into a lake. Named after W.T. Ellis, a prominent Marysville citizen, Ellis Lake offers a pleasant walk, picnic areas and pedal boats.

        And you're welcome.

And they read about it in Vermont. Yuba City, Vermont.

North of Sacramento. There isn't a good reason for you to have heard of it.

Marysville is on the east side of the River and Yuba is on the west side. East of Marysville is Beale Air Force Base, home of the U-2/TR-1 and the late SR-71. I have not been up there for a lone time, 15 or more years.

For some reason Yuba seems like it would be in Arizona, in the desert.

Holy moly. There's nothing to do in Sacramento, and that's the Big City. You're gonna die in Yuba.

I'm off on a 1300 mile round trip tomorrow. Going to a Sikh friend's wedding in Yuba City, CA population... to low to bother looking up. I've never been to a Sikh wedding before so it should be both fun and educational.

The drive itself should be, er, interesting. I'll be working all friday then after work will be picking up one friend in San Diego, driving to Santa Barbara to pick up another friend, then driving on to Yuba City. Estimated drive time is 10h 30m and I'll likely be stuck with all the driving since one friend is smart enough to get into Harvard's MBA school but is totally unable to master the art of driving a car with a manual transition while the other one is a professional pilot whose going to have just finished up a rather long day of flying.

The plan is to drive most of the night, show up at the hotel at 8am to shower/change, then go to the wedding at 9am. I'm told that Sikh weddings often last 12 hours or more so I can't rule out passing out in some dark corning during hour 5 or 6 of the ceremony. Cheers.

                              Thanks.

We were originally going to fly to Sacramento then rent a car for the last leg of the journey but the rates airlines charge for airfare three days before Christmas is just usury. I've flown to Central America for less then what they wanted to get to Sacramento.
