  • Canada is Texas compared to Finland!

Check this one out, as you know, killers in here serve few years inside, because oh well, it was the society that failed them so they murdered people anyway.

Remember, this is NOT out of the ordinary, this is in line with what usually happens, but in case you forgot.. let me remind you the guilty ones in here are the victims, the victims are the actual abusers (society made them do it) and the state is the one that collects the fines from the abusers, because they brok ehte law, thus they owe to the state (not the victims).

A couple (both models) were walking the streets with a friend and two dudes come and bum a cigarette. You see where this is going, dont' you? Well they don't get any smokes so they attack them. They choke the model guy and knee him in the head. Then he's taken down, choked and bruised up.

Well, one of the friends actually decides to defend his friend getting a beat down for no reason at all. He downs both opponents with a kick and punch in the face, he was a karate dude.

Then parties get away from each other, except the abusers find the girl model later on and punch her in the face, and kick and beat her up while she's downed. Broken nose, yadayadayada, 2 months not able to work and so forth.

So the dudes got 14 months in jail, which is surprisingly much in here, but get this, the dude who downed them in the first encounter was also found guilty He had to pay the abusers for their suffering! It was about the same amount as the abusers had to pay the actual victims. The majority of the fines for the abusers were however for the state, because they broke the law.

That's quite funny. I think that equals justice

14 months and they didn't have to kill anyone? That's pretty harsh. I guess Finland is Texas compared to Sweden

I know, it was harsh according to our laws, usually you just pay fines for beating up random people and choking them.

But I found it funny how the one who defended the victim, who came in between an unprovoked attack... I remind you, he came in after the guys attacked the one guy and got him down and choked him. That's when he got in. So... HE was guilty too. OF WHAT? That's the point, and they all paid fines, and all paid the biggest sum to the state, because the precious little law was broken and the state got so hurt by it obviously.

It's typical, it's so typical it makes me sick.

Clearly that guy should be punished. The other guys were of course victims (of something) and should be rehabilitated. When you instead start punching and kicking their faces you obviously have no intention to correct their erroneous behaviour but rather to injure them, which will only serve to further alienate them from the mainstream society.

Yes. It is funny though, the only person who is not a victim is the one who defended the ones getting brutalized. He is the ultimate abuser, because the original attackers where also abused, so they have both, but this guy wasn't abused personally so he is the onyl real abuser here!

I mean damn.. and you wonder why people don't want to help? The first thing that comes to my head, serioulsy, is not "I might get hurt" but "I might get into trouble". I'm serious, this is my natural instinct, the very first thing that pops into my head. So you have to figure out first if it's going to be beneficial, then you have to worry about the other stuff, and now a minute has passed and you're still not sure and rather just confused.

I think people should be able to defend themselves and each other in clear situations like these. Justice is also about interpreting the situation. Only then can justice be figured out, it is situational, and these have been taken into account when the laws were made, but it just seems no one uses them. I mean we could just replace the judiciary system with robots. They know justice just like we do.

14 months!? We wouldn't have given that much time for this crime.

              Nuh nuh no it isn't!

We're going to have to fight it out. It's OK, it's illegal but we won't get in trouble for it. We might have to pay the equivalent of $100 to each other though.

And Texas would be a good thing in this case. Not that it's bad case in others, but in this particular case, we're looking for some damn justice.

OK so don't punish the punks, but how about not punishing the hero?

In a kind of "left-handed" way, yeah.

I don't know finish laws and I'm no lawyer either, but down here, when someone practicing a fight sport (boxing, karate,...) uses attacks learned from said sport in a fight, it's considered as 'assault with weapon'.
A friend of mine had once an argument with some dude.
The guy lost control and hit him in the face with his fist. Unfortunately for that guy, he was a boxer. In a court, this 'hit in the face' would have been considered as 'assault with a weapon'. My friend agreed for some financial compensation. Knowing what he risked, the guy was too happy to agree.

Now, for your case, if the guy was a karate dude, the problem was probably: was it righteous self-defense or not?
Did he use karate combos or not?
If the assaulters had weapons, then it was OK to respond with weapons (karate combos). If the assaulters had no weapons, he could of course defend, even with his fists, but he wouldn't have been allowed to use karate combos.

But again, I'm no lawyer. I only know that a karate attack from a karate dude is considered as 'assault with weapon' by the law. I had confirmation of this by a few friends practising martial sports: they are not allowed to use the attacks outside the sport room.
