Upgrading from Vista to XP

I like Vista. It loads faster than 2K, and the programs actually load faster.

All games I've tried works just fine. The exception is the old abandonware games I have for DOS, under XP I could always get them to work without the use of DOSbox, but now that program is obligatory. Not the biggest problem in my life.(

Every MS OS has looked worse than the previous one for the first year or so (except possibly ME). Then MS get the major issues fixed and the third party developers finally get round to writing new software that works with the new OS instead of just trying to update the old stuff.

I would have left it another 6 months before replacing my computer but the old XP machine was dying. The new Vista PC runs everything I had on the old machine at least as well - games are better as the graphics card is far superior (7300 vs 5200). I have 2 problems with the new PC. My wireless adapter is a bit flaky on starting up but then it is a discontinued D-Link model that nearly didn't have a Vista driver available. The other problem is that the wireless mouse needs new batteries once a week (so I had to buy some rechargeables). Neither of those issues can be blamed on Vista or the PC itself.

Until recently I worked for an ISP that used proprietary software and that had real problems with Vista - memory issues and generally not working if deleted and reinstalled. Then again the core code for the software hadn't been changed since pre-XP so it should not be a surprise that it had some problems on Vista machines. The amazing thing is that it worked on most Vista machines at all.

That's really the issue here - the people with problems shout, those for whom it all works just look puzzled at all the fuss. The journalists and bloggers shout loudest but if they didn't complain what would they have to write about?

It could be funny if what it said was true, but in most cases it's not. I read the thread title as "upgrading to Vista" and started agreeing with most of what he said. In my experience Vista is more reliable, faster, etc (well... anything) than XP

So far it has played all games I've installed, with one exception (some old game)... but that game didn't even run on XP, so no difference there. To my surprise, one of my old games ran much better in Vista than XP (in XP I kept getting graphics problems in Theme Hospital)





The only problem I have with Vista is Nero. The app works (haven't had any problems burning cd's), but it crashes the "installed applications 'folder'" in vista, so I had to uninstall it. So whenever I need to burn a cd I boot up XP instead (got dual boot on my computer)

Oh, and I do have another problem in Vista, but that is not MS' fault. The problem is the company who has made the program we use to connect to work network from home. Their app works fine in Vista, but a few months ago they decided to add a small rule in their application: They completely dissalows people to connect from a Vista machine. Reason: "We don't support Vista"... pointless reason IMHO, as it worked great in Vista until they added their new rule

Amusingly #8 is -Apple "Leopard" OS 10.5-... so they apparently didn't like any OSs released this year.

And iPhone was #5, FWIW.

Leopard is definitely the worst upgrade of the two. At least Vista doesn't delete your files on you. And virtually every change made to Leopard was cosmetic in nature, almost always for the worst.
