Apparently, it has little value to Americans as they enter the voting booth.

It's funny to see non-Americans act as if they should have input on this decision.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Hereclitus, what makes you think we care what the rest of the world thinks. Most of worldwide anti-american feeling isn't based on anything subsative anyway.

PS Would it be that bad though, to be liked in the world again?
Not if that like is based on nothing important, like the current dislike.

I know the US citizen dosen't care about what the world thinks, and thats perfectly ok. But anyone runing the US should, since popular opinion influences some of the decisions of other goverments.

You should be carefull to keep at least some long-term allies in the world.

95% Chance it will be the Dems. Rufus had it right. It's all in the math.

You'd think this would be a slam-dunk election cycle for the Dems, but the example of 2004 stands as a very recent reminder that if anybody can **** it up, it's the Dems (or, if you're in a really pissy mood, the American People).

                Plus, consider this:

New York and California have long been considered safe Dem states. But what happens if the GOP nominates New York's own Guilani, and succeeds in making immigration policy the centerpiece of the 2008 election? Both states go into play. The GOP may not win them, but they will force the Dems to spend more of their resources there, and less on the swing states in the Pacific Northwest and Great Lakes.

If it's Clinton v. Giuliani, who wins New York?

If it's Obama v. Giuliani, who wins New York?

I was surprised to see Giuliani running so poorly in New Hampshire opposite Romney.

I think the issue with Guiliani, while he puts New York into play, he may also put some relatively safe Republican states into play because you may see some efforts by religious conservatives to vote for a 3rd party.

                      Pay attention, Dan.

I said the GOP may not win New York, but by making New York competitve the Dems would have less resources for the "purple" states: NH, MI, OH, PA, FL, IA, WI, MN, OR, WA, NV, NM, MT, CO, MO, WV.

I rather doubt that; the religious right won't want to "swing" the election to a Democrat, and didn't Robertson just endorse Guilani a few weeks ago?

Actually 49% of Americans care what other people think but 51% (Republican voters) don't. Of course most of the rest of the world is pissed off at us exactly because that 51% doesn't care about anyone but themselves.

Honestly, I think that--in spite of the last seven years of utter incompetence at every ****ing level--the GOP are positioning themselves nicely for another victory in 2008. The fact that their main competition remains a rudderless, boneheaded Democratic Party makes the coming GOP victory only more likely.

They don't even have to vote 3rd party. They just have to decide they don't like either candidate and stay home.
