... Except for the ocean, where higher temperatures equal reduced capacity for dissolved gasses (CO2 and O2) necessary for marine life?

The problem has never been about actual climate change - everyone is quite aware this happens naturally thank you very much - but rather about the rate of change, and our human ability to deal with that change.

Another new study, to be presented by U.S. Navy researchers later this week, warns it could happen in as little as 7 years.

Gore is saying 7 years is according to a US Navy study.
In other words, another quote distorted to the point of making it up by FOX news & the Drudge crowd for sexy and catchy headlines demonizing people who aren't sucking them up. Stupid people will eat it up, as usual

      isn't that obvious?

I suppose Gore just quoted that for ****s and giggles.

VJ yet again forgets to check before ranting

            What FOX said :

            Factually Speaking

On the same day Al Gore received his share of the Nobel Prize for his work on climate change — one of his main arguments is being challenged by a scientific fact.

Gore has said that the northern polar ice cap could be completely gone in as little as seven years. But Brazil's MetSul Weather Center reports the ice and snow cover in the Arctic have recovered to within one percent of normal — even though the official start of winter is still more than a week away.

And it says the southern polar ice cap actually has an additional 772,000 square miles of ice now — compared to a year ago.
            I've seen more sexy headlines
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

What he said that he had read about a study by researchers in US armed forces that suggested something very dramatic could happen in a short timespan. FOX news changed this to him saying personally that he believes himself that the dramatic thing will happen in the said short timespan.

Former uses a traditionally conservative establishment as an authority for study results indicating something which sounds incredible, the latter puts Gore using himself as an authority to saying something which sounds incredible without him offering any proof whatsoever to back it up.

If you can't see the subtle difference in spin between these two stories; reality and the FOX "news" story, then you my good sir are an idiot.

I've given up pointing out how crappy Fox is. Every one with a half a brain knows how they twist things to the nth degree and the people who still love Fox will never admit reality no matter how many times it kicks them in the backside.

OK, Metsul are not friends of Al Gore and his ideas and see some media-alarmism - which is a valid opinion.
BTW, searching for other articles on Metrosul, however, I came to find that climate change advocates are compared to Nazis ("Dort wo man Bücher verbrennt verbrennt man am Ende auch Menschen" http://www.metsul.com/secoes/visuali...&cod_texto=556 )

For example, temps go up, evaporation increases and sea levels can actually lower as water is transported into the hydro-cycle, including ice sheets. From 1900-1940 the world warmed and sea levels dropped, then from 1940-1970 sea levels rose as the world cooled. Evaporation rates compared to melting continental ice would seem to be valuable information.
Those who try to refute my 5 min spiel, who do actually know a little science, usually start here .

The world is not a designed entity, it does not have "designed" saftey measures, the fact that it does have some flexibility, is a coincodence. We can easily overwhelm that flexibility.

So your saying because it is only a small amount of the total gas in the atmsophere is CO2, that it can't have a big effect? Swap the small amount of CO2 in the atmosphere with I don't know oh... chlorine. See how that works out for our planet heh. Small changes can have a very large impact.

The 1940 dip was part of an overall rising in temperature.

I'm very familiar with the ice cores, and they do show that climate was much more chaotic (and dangerous) during ice advances. And according to the data, the world has been warmer before industrialization. The Milankovich Cycles (and other orbital cycles) drive our ice ages, and we'll be fortunate to understand pollution enough in the future to minimize the negative effects of an ice advance that will surely come as the Earth's tilt lessens.
Define "chaotic". The milankovich cycle lasts 100,000 years, or close enough on average anyway and other natural phenomina do effect temperature but that does not mean we cannot do it on our own.

And the ice sheets are deserts, more evaporation means more snow dropping on ice sheets. Obviously there are limits, a really warm world might be completely de-iced except for Antarctica where ice doesn't melt but is pushed into the oceans.
Not neccesarily. Global winds, yeh are a mighty force!

A warmer world has more life... Carbon increases and carbon is trapped more by the life flourishing under a warmer climate. Studying climate is one thing, clamping down on production etc aint gonna do anything unless we're willing to go to war to stop the 3rd world from industrializing. Better to just develop better technologies so the 3rd world doesn't have to make our mistakes.
So you think what, global warming is a good thing, because it'll provide some warmer areas.... while disrupting global winds and putting some of the planet into a deep freeze :?

A majority of humanity, lives fairly close to the ocean. A rise in sea levels would be absolutley catastrophic.

There is no side when it comes to facts. What they said about the ice, regardless about what that means to climate change, is fact.

And I am an adopted son of South Carolina, you might be suprised where I originally hail from
