Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.
The simple suggestion of a true change scandalizes and terrifies modern man. -Nicolás Gómez Dávila

I hear his friends used to call him 'Francisco "48 inch" Pizzaro,' because he was always full of BS.

There isn't much pride in conquering mostly sparsly populated land.

A lot more pride than in getting your ass kicked twice and being exiled to a little island somewhere, though.

Genghis Khan died in 1227. Most of the conquering of "populated" places was done by his decendents.

At least Napoleon can pride that it took nature to weaken him to the point where he coould be beaten.
