Since I've been in the service and known people went there, I'd have to call bull**** on you.
Prisoners there are like any other maximum secuity prison. Drug dealers go there. Thieves. Whatever.
I don't think, and I know you think what I think is squat but anyway, I don't think the other inmates would think highly of a person who deserted in war.
I don't think that the sad story of, "well hell. I didn't think I would have to go", would cut it.

Perhaps he should have thught about that before drawing a government paycheck for five years.
National Guard whiners are pathetic. If you joined and took the oath and didn't mean it, then your worthless. If you joined for any other reason than to fight when lawfully ordered to do so you were playing the numbers, and you lose these days.

I know I'm a bit naive, but shouldn't the national guard- guard the nation? I always thought that was what they were for based on the name.
I'd join the guard maybe if they didn't deploy overseas. Though the thought of firing on citizens (like that incident in the 60's) isn't my cup of tea either. I'm glad I'm a civilian.

I actually think it's important for soldiers (and for many people in many different jobs actually) to remember that they are foremost a human person and SECOND an employee and they can\should morally object to certain things when necessary.
At the risk of Godwinning this thread, what you said above is exactly the kind of thinking that helps Nazi-like groups to achieve so much. Everybody is just "doing their job".Comment
