    Chavez warning opens Opec summit

Chavez (r) and Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are staunch US critics
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez warned oil prices could double if the US attacked Iran, as a key summit of oil exporters opened.

Mr Chavez told the summit of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) the price of crude could reach $150 or even $200 a barrel.

Oil has been hitting record peaks of well over $90 a barrel as markets believe Opec will not boost production.

The Opec summit in Saudi Arabia is only the organisation's third in 47 years.

Mr Chavez kicked off the summit with a blistering attack on the US.

"If the United States was mad enough to attack Iran or aggress Venezuela again the price of a barrel of oil could reach $150 or even $200," he said.

Oh man, you've guys played yourselves out of it. Imagine if there was a war between the US and Mexico. I mean the US would kick ass, but the number of Mexicans in the US? Not a good idea! Besides, this Chavez guy is someone who isn't on our side. He's not against us, but he's a punk. He has no desire to cooperate or work with others. He should go.

Anyone willing to have a little bet against who will get invaded next by the US?

Chavez and Ahmadinejad both need oil prices to stay high. Their non-oil economies are in deep trouble and the only thing keeping them afloat are record oil prices. It's no wonder they're so eager to talk up the price of oil.

Also it is funny Chavez is still running around claiming the US tried to over throw him when no one has ever shown this to be the case.

Oerdin, exactly. And if it was the case, he could show it. He has the resources, he could even frame it if he bothered. Chavez is a perfect example of a politican that just runs his mouth for reasons unknown, except to perhaps satisfy his own ego of being "a rebel". That's why he can't be trusted and worked with and that's why he needs to go.

He is in his position to only satisfy his own punk self.

Chavez seems to be a big fan of Goebbels. He keeps repeating the same lie so often he thinks it will become true.

Yes, because the risk of rising oil prices kept us from invading Iraq, after all...chances are Dubya's eyes just glazed over when they said "oil." He missed the rest of it, heard "If you invade Iran WAHWAHWAHWAHWAH oil WAHWAHWAH WAH WAAAA." Or however you transliterate the wah-wah sounds of adults talking from Charlie Brown specials.

There will be a democrat in the White House and peace in our time. The French will return to hating the US, and all will be right with the world.
