Positive about "We Were Soldiers" was that the Vietnamese weren't depicted simply as nazis. Aside from that it was just a war movie with a "war sucks - but sometimes individuals have to go through it - at home families wait - the hero returns" message much like described above by DM. It wasn't really pro-war, and not clearly anti-war either IMO.Blah

Yeh, sounds like a real has-been to me.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

If he could *** $400 million wouldn't he just stay at home all day watching porn and wacking off?
On another note DanS's last post just helps to prove what people have already said in this thread. Americans like Action movies and not boring political diatribes. Feel free to continue pretending being pro or anti war was even a remote factor if it pleases you.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

There have been so many anti-war films in the past, especially after Vietnam.
And what's new that war films like Platoon and Full Metal jacket don't send the same message? People suffer, die, go through emotional turmoil. **** gets blown up. Yeah, people know what's going on in Iraq thanks to an all pervasive media. The News reports it 24/7 and most people are against the occupation now. Anti-war movies aren't going to add much at this point.

Rendition's CIA. You know, the organization with a substantial paramilitary force stocked full of special ops folks? Wasn't Platoon an anti-war movie as well? It just depends what people regard as anti-war movies. IMO all movies with at least bits of realism are anti-war movies.
Then again, we might not understand that they are actually anti-war movies.B♭3
