  • Beowulf. Are You Going To Go See It?

Beowulf was one of the things I was supposed to read in high school. Being a rebel, I wasn't about to do anything or read anything "they" wanted me to do or read.
Back in that time, I heard it was boring, but I wonder.
    Tell me about it.

I love the Seamus Heaney translation of the poem. The movie, though, looks ridiculous. Probably wouldn't have bothered under ant circumstances, but giving Grendl's mother hooves that looked like stiletto heels that sealed the deal for me.

Well, Neil Gaiman is the screenwriter, and he's quite good (admittedly, more on the novel/comic side than on the screenwriting side). Not fully sure what he can do, though, the story as is is too straightforward.

You heard correctly. I'm sure it was an entertaining story to a people whose usual entertainment consisted of different types of snow and occasional raids by other tribes. The movie will likely be a VAST improvement, but I have no intention of seeing it. Reading the story was enough.

Looks like another ridiculous, over the top CGI ****fest like 300. No thanks.

Will it be as bad as the ridiculous version starring Christopher Lambert?

Funny that you mention 300. Everytime I see the promos for Beowulf I keep hearing, "This. Is. SPARTA!!! I. Am. BEOWULF!!!"

Oh, and even that six-pack Ray Winstone is sporting in the movie is CGI apparently. Pathetic.

Are you serious? A CGI sick-pack? I have to at least give 300 spartan actors credit for working out several months in order to get that buff look.

Hollywood has an amazing ability to take almost any era of history or literature and turn into something almost unrecognizable mess and lose it's original meaning. 300 was just an awful movie and the portrayal of Persians was despicable. It honestly reminded me of Nazi portrayal of Jews in their propaganda films and seemed to glorify a totalitarian Spartan society while omitting the rampant pederasty they practiced.

The opening scenes of Civ IV are better than this garbage.

It's just lazy motion capture rather than more refined computer animation such as Pixar employs in their films, so why even bother computer generating the film in the first place?

Be warned: this film is going to stink. I nearly walked out on the trailer.

Oh, and if you're a horny teenage geek who wants to see the likeness of Angelina Jolie naked, just go and hire Gia - it even has lesbian scenes.

What's up with the movie poster having a chick? I don't remember any chicks in Beowulf! Just a troll/ogre/demon with a taste for human flesh and a bunch of hair Germanic tribesmen.
