      Carly Simon - Anticipation

      {Refrain}

And tomorrow we might not be together
      I'm no prophet, and I don't know nature's ways
So I'll try to see into your eyes right now
And stay right here, 'cause these are the good old days
These are the good old days
And stay right here, 'cause these are the good old days
These are the good old days
These are the good old days
These are the good old days
These are the good old days

As Aeson said, the days gone by, whenever that framework is in the individuals life.
You people who are 20 will be thought archaic and ill-informed someday. It won't be true, particularly; but that won't stave off the happening.
Look at Kuci. He's foreshadowing the event.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.
"Hating America is something best left to Mobius. He is an expert Yank hater.
He also hates Texans and Australians, he does diversify." ~ Braindead

It (and the 90's) will be regarded as a period of wasted opportunity and time squandered in addressing issues such as:

        Climate change

        Middle East problem

        African poverty

Good times for some, the same **** for someone else (poverty and so forth in some countries). But stricly from our POV? Good times. I don't think there's too many things that are going very badly at the moment.

            Doesn't it sound impressive?

The times when man's physical achievements outstripped his socio-cultural achievements.

Basically, we (specially those in the prosperous societies) have all that our ancestors, and our hearts, could desire, and we don't know what to do with it. It's like a child given every toy he could conceivably want, and anything further that he wants, a near-omnipotent parent gives it to him almost instantaneously.

We have all the destructive power we could desire, to the point where we could destroy ourselves many times over - but our states are not structured in such a way as deal with this power.

Our superstitions and follies of belief (and belief in belief), which once led us out of the morass of barbarism, threaten to cast us back into that same hell.

We know the theory of conflict, and the strategies so that all may benefit (game theory), but we know that that will probably never happen, and those in the know are powerless to bring about change and often bitter in this knowledge.

These are the best of times.
These are the worst of times.

From a European perspective, it's an excellent time. It is no-longer the setting for wars - be they home grown or between other continents.

Any major world conflict can now happen without direct European involvement.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

When it is looked back upon by future generations, this will be know as the 'Britney Age'.
