I never heard of the thanks for the interview e-mail...Thats just buttkissing to me. Hell, the guy said thank you for the interview when he left, why would he send me an e-mail to tell me again?
Also, I hate buttkissers, I always prefer straight forward poeple. But the problem with hating buttkissers is that the more you ignore them, the more they kiss-up...Its like a vicous circle...

Since this was an internal application where Japher already works, it's probably not necessary. Depends on if he knows the decision-maker for the gig, and if he sees that person in hallways/cube farms/cafeteria. If so, it can be done verbally. If not, he should send a quick email.
The "thanks for the interview" email reminds them who you are, and shows you as detail-oriented for following up.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011

How about this:
Thank you, everyone, for taking the time Tuesday and Wednesday to interview me for the Process Engineering position. I am honored to have been considered for the position and hope that my education, professional background and ability to build positive working relationships deem me worthy of the opening. I have enjoyed my past year here at NAMEOFCOMPANY and look forward to applying my skills in new ways so that I can contribute more to the success of the company as well as the Engineering departmental goals. If there are any questions or concerns left unaddressed please do not hesitate to contact me.

Seriously, its a good e-mail. But personnaly, it would create a doubt in my head about hiring you. But I'm not a politicaly correct type of person. I hate brown-nosing, and to me, thats what it looks like. My 2-cents.
Do what YOU feel is right.

Japh, that one does sound a little needy. I basically agree with Kontiki; you want to sound confident. The second half of it is OK though. "I look forward to moving into this new phase of my career here" is more the vibe you want. The implied loyalty is a plus.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011

Better, but I'd still drop the "I am honored" bit."The French caused the war [Persian Gulf war, 1991]" - Ned

"Investment/Mutual Funds Officer" --> Salesman?
"Enterprise Solutions Consultant" --> Loudmouthed critic?"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
