Well, this is I wanted to ask first and foremost. But I wanted to have you guys opinions on regular couples first. It seemed in my mind like a good idea to make the other thread first.

Since there is a degree of "gayness" in people, some are more feminine/masculine than others, what do gays look for primarily in their "potential" partners?

Lets take 2 lesbians for example.

As most of us agreed in the other thread, women tend to look for "security" in men and men look for "fun" in women. What do lesbians look for in another lesbian? Do they look for the same thing? Does it depends on how "manly" they are? What about gay men?
Does it have to do with the "gayness" meter? As in, some gay men are more feminine than others and some lesbians are more manly than others. How do they match up? Is it true that in a gay couple, even though they are 2 people of the same sex, one acts as the man and the other as the women? Do you think we can generalize like we do with straight men and women?

I have my opinion on the matter, I just wanna see whats yours first.

Asher, answer seriously please, leave girth and all that stuff out of it, unless you really think thats the case. Because I am convinced that this can only be considered for short term relationships.

Why do you seem to equate masculinity/femininity with homosexuality?

While there are male "flamers" and butch lesbians there are also very masculine gay men and very feminine lesbians as well as very "feminine acting" staright men and some pretty masculine straight women.

As long as we are just continuing to generalize very widely I would say that gay women will seek much the same things that the straight women do while the gay men will be seeking the same things as the straight men-- just more successfully since I expect a man-man relationship to be far more sex-filled than the man-women ones.


Within any given relationship I am sure people figure out their own roles. IN a hetero relationship, the man usually drives the car more than the woman for instance ( big generalization that is often untrue)-- I suspect that one partner would take that on more in a homosexual relationship and that instances of 50/50 would be similar to the heteros

While we're being blunt with the gay community here, I'd like to ask this: is it just me, or is Showtime's "The L Word" staggeringly exploitative? I only saw one episode during free preview, but it really did seem like, uh, ****sploitation. Take three tons of hot chicks rubbing up against each other and moaning, add a dash of self-righteousness, zap in the micro for thirty seconds and serve.

Are you trying to say that there will always be one person that take on the "man roles" and one the "woman roles" ? I do know that for gay men there are those that almost always take on certain roles in the bedroom while others are "versatile" but I don't know that that would equate into roles outside the bedroom.


I only know one lesbian couple well and one of them is pregnant. But the decision for her to bear the child was made for the very pragmatic reason that she was 4 years younger than her partner . They are equally pragmatic as the non-biological "mom" will take the remainder of the parental leave since her income is less and in Canada the benefits while on parental leave are identical for anyone with an annual income over 30K.

Oh and both of them are gorgeous and very feminine.
