Well, as the article points out, if he's not raising or spending money to pursue office, it probably won't matter to FEC. I doubt they'll consider spending money on the show to be for "pursuing office".

I suspect that if it came to a head, the law would be overturned, not his candidacy. ISTM blocking this sort of situation would be a clear First Amendment violation.

This is a great real-life edge case.

he might be. I think he will get himself on the ballot. I believe this is his goal.

I think as the article states, if you don't raise $5000, it doesn't matter. He can do whatever he likes. Is it even a requirement to raise money? He doesn't actually need to raise money. Not like he's in it to win.

So time will tell how serious he is.

I've only recently started watching his show (and returning to Daily show). Flilf was great tonight on daily show . These are interesting times, I hope he runs, though he'd most likely sway more votes to the republicans, and I don't think he wants that. I wonder how much impact he could have on an election.

and this is just real interesting. Doritos is only paying for sponsoring the tv show, not the election. Much of that money is going to comedy central, not to campaigning. The only thing you could argue is he's using the show to get his face out there to get more recognition. But I think they found a loophole that would work.

that pretty much sums it up. No way will he even appear on the South Carolina ballot, much less any other. The republicans charge a huge fee to get on theirs, so he withdrew from the republican primary.

And he seems to be running in only one state, his home state of south carolina. I don't understand that.

Either way, I don't think this will go far. But it proves a point, the common man cannot run for president.
