So... are there good options other than Ipods?

I've heard good things about Creative's models, and I own one of Sandisk's Sansas and have good things to say about it.

I think at this point almost any major name brand MP3 player is decent, and will be a huge upgrade and amazing for someone who's not used one before.

That said, I think iPods are still the best overall, for my needs at least. Easy to use, all the features I need, tons of space, great resolution screen for videos for the size, and good size (nano especially).

actually I think I may have a reason to have one of these (can't miss out on current fashion trends ).

I'll be going back to the gym soon, and I'd like something so I don't have to watch Jessica Simpson videos the whole time. They just aren't my thing. So I wouldn't mind something to listen to while I'm at the gym

But I'm so far behind the times. I have no idea what the difference between the ipod and ipod nano is. Can they play tunes that weren't "officially" downloaded? What about the file type that is unique to ipod? m4p or something or other. I would assume they could play those. I actually did get those legally. They were a free promotion or other.

Haven't been back to the gym yet, right now I'm getting in good enough shape so I can get to the gym. I know that sounds silly, but I don't want to embarrass myself at the gym. over 6 months with no working out, I about puked today.
