Wouldn't sudden deceleration on a busy high speed four lane road be a hazard? Also suppose you're on a winding two lane road with a solid double line in the middle. Are you supposed to risk your life by crossing the double lines? Can the cop ticket you for reckless driving if you do so? What happens if you get into an accident when you comply with this law?
      When you can't change lanes safely the law does not require you to do so. In that case you stay as near the left edge of your lane as possible and proceed with caution. Deceleration not required (unless you happen to be speeding...)

      This law does not apply to two lane highways (one lane each way). You have no left lane to change into. Again, keep as much distance as safely possible.

        Isn't this law standard? It's law in Alberta and, IIRC, Ontario as well. It just makes sense, it shouldn't even need to be a law if people had a brain.

          It become law here in the last few years but yes, to my knowledge it is standard.
