    Nobody gets paid well here.

I had my house painted. All 4 workers together made less than $25 a day plus meal, and we paid top rates out of sheer guilt.

It just doesn't seem like a good place to relax. All of the cost savings of the hotel will be spent on the flight. In the end you're going farther with more questionable amenities than you would going to something more established, and closer.
You're right, there's no point in coming here for a silly two week vacation, the flight is too long. We're here for 6 months, we'll spend a few thousand.

The hospitals in Tagbilaran are pretty good. The ones in Cebu are used by Americans engaging in 'medical tourism' all the time. Whatever treatment or operation they get costs a fraction and the facilities are modern, the doctors excellent, the savings so great they pay for the whole trip plus vacation with $ to spare.

Watch out for the water, drink only bottled water. Resorts like dapdap chlorinate, but still, to be safe...

Out of curiosity, I checked out the flights. If I did a week getaway from Saturday through next week, it'll cost $2000 USD (plus all of the taxes/fees) in airfare alone. Yikes. 22 hours in flying time.

You can do much better. Look up ASAP travel. We paid $1300 round trip from Eugene Or to Tagbilaran, Bohol. Then we founf ASAP too late, they would have been $1000.

The trip is loooong, that's true.

Oregon is probably much cheaper than Toronto for flights over there.

ASAP travel's cheapest flight from here is $1685 + taxes. With 3 connecting flights and a 15 hour layover mixed in for fun.

Ok, try flying in January. This is peak Christmas season. That's why we flew in September, before the price hike it was $1,000.

Yeah I agree. I cancelled my plans for a US trip this year. I didn't want to deal with those American Pesos.

Now is the best time for foreigners to visit the US though! You get a ~25% discount on everything (from 5 years ago) just from the exchange rate.

It's a big state. There is still so much I have not seen.

Even within Death Valley (close to where I live), there is a little more I'd like to see. I know it's just desert, but I love the desert.

But I also love the trees, and went to Yosemite, which I have not seen before.

and San Fransisco. First time I have been there. Definately going back. I was with my aunt and cousins. Did not have enough time to spend in San Fransisco, they were in a hurry to see a lot of stuff. We may still go to grand canyon, though I'd rather not go, I've been there so many times.

california is teh cool. And some good microbreweries there as well.

                          pics to come later

and considering I'm unemployed, wouldn't be wise for me to travel too far and spend too much money. I've been looking for a job, but no luck last week (kept my prepaid cell phone in case someone called)

doing what? how much does it pay? and how much does it cost to live there?

I think I'm allergic to large amounts of rain, however
