I imagine its working like a big ol' capacitor. The beakers each accumulate a charge on either side and then a bridge forms. It's difficult for me to say what is going on in the bridge itself afterwords because I don't know the specifics of the situation especially in regards to voltage and salinity. Distilled water and salt water have very different electrical properties.

I tried to pull up the article on my school's library with no luck but it's having some technical difficulties and all its archives aren't online. I'll check back later and see if I can't figure out more.

In terms of practical stuff and where this may lead, I don't think it's going to be that big of a deal. These kinds of things involve a lot of power and aren't the most efficient things.

    Bottom line:
    High Voltage = Awesome

Is it only water that does this?

Can we make a bridge like this using, say, liquid helium or something?

If it's just water, isn't that ****ed up?

I wonder what would happen if you used grape kool aid in one jar and cherry kool aid in the other

Maybe he tried to walk across a bridge made of water.

So its not water under the bridge but water is the bridge.
