It should be about the DJ's and producers. Today, rap revolves too much around the MC's, IMO. They're the stars, not the DJ's. Not sure its a good thing. 1)You have a good MC but a crappy DJ and I will not bother listening to the song. I dont care how deep the lyrics are it will be crap to me. 2Pac is a good example of this. He was a great MC but most if not ALL of his beats were absolute trash IMHO. now if you re-mix 2Pac's lyrics into a tite beat you will discover why he was one of the best rappers to ever live...
2)Good DJ but crappy MC = overrated musicians. i could make a list but i will be nice.
3)Good producer crappy artists = more overrated musicians. this is the number one argument vs. 50 Cent
3)good artists crappy producers = undiscovered gems. Big L and Cassidy are 2 great examples...
