  • Cops are friggin bastards II: Man arrested for coughing

Continuing our theme coverage, where a person was charged with over-salting a meal, here's the new schtick:

N.C. Man Charged With 'Coughing' Assault

MORRISVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Morrisville police have charged a man with assault on a government official after an officer said the man coughed into his face during a traffic stop.

Officer Chris Gill said in his report that Kent Kauffman looked into his eyes before "hacking" in his face three times, according to Morrisville spokeswoman Stacie Galloway. Kauffman said he did cough from the window of his minivan but did so toward Gill's waist.

"He says I coughed in his face," Kauffman said. "But that would only work if he had a 4-foot-long face."

Kauffman said he developed a cough after his dog died last week. He said Gill put him in handcuffs and threw him into the side of the patrol car.

Gill pulled Kauffman over Tuesday for not wearing a seat belt. He now faces a misdemeanor charge and, if convicted, could spend up to 60 days in jail.
What the heck is wrong with policemen today?

Do they take everyone to be a cop?

Either that cop is a terrible pansy, or he's a super abusive dont-caugh-on-my-authoritah type.

The guy was probably a smart ass there and mouthed off to the cop.

        Jews are friggin bastards

I really do not think it's a good idea for you to continue posting threads for unique incidents and applying them to an entire spectrum of people.

Lord knows how you'd react if I started a thread like "Jew murders neighbour -- what the heck is wrong with Jews today?"

My mommy taught me to put my hand over my mouth when I cough. Obviously, Mr. Kauffkauffkauffman's mommy was not a good mommy.

Coughing three times in a cop's face while he's ticketing you? Not a good idea.

              Unique incidents amount to trends.

And for every incident we hear about, there are dozens we don't, because they happen to poor people.

I don't really think cops are bad.

I do suspect that a large group of American cops are below-average wits people that often abuse their power.

I have observed this in Israel too, but in Israel the ability of cops to arrest someone over such silly stuff is much smaller. They can however harass you pretty good.

So I need to find two Jewish murderers before I can call it a trend?

Just pointing out the absurdity of this thread. And the resentment it can cause.

Did anyone else hear comedian Gabriel Iglesias's bit on talking his way out of a speeding ticket? The best part was when the cop returned briefly to his cruiser and Gabriel slipped the theme from "Cops" into his CD. The cop was almost dancin' to the beat when he returned to Gabriel's car.

Authoritarianism seems to be the direction that the US is headed anyway. The cops are just leading the way. There is no assumption of innocence anymore. Particularly with traffic stops. If they say you did it, then you might as well mail in the fine because you are guilty unless you have some pretty strong evidence of innocence. All the "proof" the cop needs is his/her word.

A person is now not even allowed to cough during this type of legal harrasment anymore...in fact it seems that doing so will get you restrained and manhandled.

                    Just another "isolated incident"? Yeah...right.

The point is, most of the time cops go and do something, they do it perfectly within the rules and no one cares.

the typo cracks me up for some reason.

arrest is a bit extreme, but come on people. a little common sense goes a long way. Why can't people respect people for doing their job? (assuming the cop had a valid reason to ticket the person)

Everything can be exaggerated to absurdity.

If we considered every case on its own basis, and always observed proper conclusion making, we wouldn't have interesting threads.

                              Consider:
"Teen murders 15 class mates - what the heck is wrong with teens today"? I think this would easily fly.

I bet I can find you doing the same extrapolation from unique instances to trends, without proper justification. But I don't think it would contribute.
