Not just that, methinks. SPS views are also alien to most of the Russians. Yet they are a respectable political party, they just didn't succeed to get into the Duma in 2003. In contrast, Kasparov's views are not simply alien, but rather smell of a reckless rebellious lunatism.

Actually, you have a point. Nowadays the world chess championship has lost its old splendor; it looks more like a competition of the cripples who cannot even beat a computer...

And whatever you might say about that match, it's been 10 years and computers are vastly more powerful.

I believe the leading grand masters should stop all these meaningless tournaments among themselves. They shoud rather unite their efforts to devise a tactics that would permit to consistently beat the computer. That would really be a great achievement.

Well, it's not surprising really, since he is a lunatic

They'll never beat a perfect calculating machine. At best it will be a stalemate. I think chess will become a tic-tac-toe when computers will be powerfull enough to calculate all posible variants and always chose the right move. It's really impossible to win, when your opponent can calculate all possible outcomes of your move, then make a right move. When a perfect chess algorithm for AI will be created nobody could beat it, except perhaps another AI with the same algorithm. In this case it will be a draw or the one who plays white will always win (which is more likely, imho).

It will be a very long time before chess is solved that way. However, a modern desktop computer can already search 6 moves further ahead than Deep Blue. Humans have no chance.

                      But we will never surrender!

(there are no computer problem that a good hammer can't solve )

**** the Sky Net. Power to the humans!

Perhaps, under the condition that the computer program is not modified during the tournament, humans still have a chance... The calculating power of the computer is still not absolute after all.

                          Otherwise, chess is morally obsolete.

Well, at least Kasparov's English is good enough. But he is a lunatic (Putin staying for a third term - yeah, right ) And he really pulled this "parliament is not a place for discussion" out of his arse.
Cohen understands Russia a thousand times more than Kasparov. That's not surprising, since anyone understands anything better than a total lunatic.
He should have keep playing chess instead of doing that crap.

The guy is such an idiot.

I like Kasparov. First, he's smart, much smarter than that "Russia expert" Cohen they brought in. Secondly, he's fighting for a good cause. Thirdly, he's right about Jesus being born 200 years ago . Fourthly, he's doing his thing legally, using democratic mechanisms.
