I have no problems with mercs, but they shoudln't be able to operate with immunity.

This I agree with. I am not defending the actions of individual memebers. If a Microsoft employee murders his wife screw him too.

There's only 1.5 mercs in Iraq??

A friend of mine just got out of the army. He was serving in Iraq as a driver. He grumbled that too often the guy driving the next truck over was a "private contractor" making four to five times as much as the soldiers.

I mean really, Fallujah was considered the big holdout. Perhaps it was the media covering for the Bush Administration, but it made it seem fairly isolated (not the only area of trouble, but one of the few). Until we tried to 'pacify' the city things didn't seem to hit the fan.
Things hit the fan right after the 82nd moved in. They left when the city had entirely turned against them. This is before other attempts at pacification.

Which is still a Fallujah problem. I'm taking about the events that galvanized a lot of Iraqis in other parts of the country against the occupiers and made them realize the US wasn't going to be all that grand.

                            STORY FALSE

Iraq realized that it cannot just tell all the security protection for American diplomats and officials to leave. Iraq has backed off its statements.

DD, PMC's aren't illegal per se. But there are lots of legal questions concerning their action. Such as, who do they answer to in case of war crimes, since they aren't under the army control.

Saying that they still have to answer the local laws isn't valid, since in places of war, local laws aren't usually like very existing.

So, what you get is private and independent players, and in case they enage in illegal activities such as war crimes, who is responsible? How do you take them to court and what court is that?

etc etc. There's lots of questions open. So hells yeah there's controversy. And when it comes to mercs, there's always controversy, the whole issue of mercenary activity is controversial.

Notice, I'm not saying PMCs are a bad idea, I'm saying that they're controversial and that Blackwater sucks and is the worst PMC out there with the least possible professionality.
