      • More Apple Pwnage!

Apple has intentionally prevented new iPods from being used by any program other than iTunes! Consumer choice is EVIL!!! apparently.

        • ... whereas they somehow have a responsibility to let people use a service that does not profit them? So you'd like my grocery store to let people sell lettuce or whatever in the store without the store profiting?

Besides, the hackers will take care of that in ten minutes flat, so don't worry about it in the long run Apple's just helping the hackers keep in practice

This has nothing to do with the iTunes store. Apple has long prevented any other music stores from working on iPods.

The point is even for ANY kind of music (mp3, etc) you HAVE to use iTunes to manage your library.

I'd like your grocery store to let me eat my lettuce how I want it, not have an armed guard dictate how to eat it.

            • What else would you use to sync with the iPod? WMP? Please, that sucks.

              • Well, that's the consumer decision, isn't it? Unless you want to take that decision away of course. THis is how socialist welfare state works, Wiglaf. They "favour" some decisions by not promoting the best possible idea that benefits the society, say with tax breaks and whatnot, but it actually just bans the other alternatives or gives them ridiculous tax burdens so they are considerably more expensive.

                Do you promote socialism?

Winamp was much better. I can't stand iTunes on Windows...it's bloaty and installs three background services each time that I don't need nor want.

Not to mention, for the poor saps using Linux, there's no way to use the iPod at all now.

No, and the association you've just made is incoherent, simplistic, and obnoxious . Call me back when you leave the netherlands and see how the real world works. It isn't about the government favoring a product, it is Apple ... oh you know what nevermind. Go star in some pornography and get embarrassed when the cameraman laughs at you . Do something aside from repeatedly rambling, and making false accusations. In the 1970's your post would be considered a serious accusation Now I am going to just laugh it off in stride.

Your panties have been in a bunch since you called the police on that old lady. Is there something you haven't told us?

Requiring using iTunes with the iPod means more money for Apple, because more people will buy songs on iTunes (if only because having iTunes installed means you might in theory use it, out of convenience factor or something). Therefore it is a corporate decision to attempt to make more money. I really don't think one should be surprised by this...

What media player are you allowed to use on the XBox360 for its video/audio content? Can you use iTunes to send audio or video to it? If you could (without hacking the box or a program) I would be shocked ...

Well, prepare to be shocked. iTunes can't send audio or video to it, but only because Apple does not adhere to standards.

There are many applications that can stream audio and video to the 360. Some are free (TVersity), some are not (Nero MediaHome) -- but all are permitted. WMP is just one way to stream content, and is not the only supported way.
