TV-show host regrets statements on terror

Danish state television DR's program Aftenshowet from Tuesday evening will not be re-broadcast as originally scheduled. The reason: A controversial statement from the show's host Jens Blauenfeldt on the terror attacks of six years ago.

-You know, I'm a little ashamed to admit it, but I thought: 'Hey, it's the Americans, now they're being slapped around - and how they deserve it.'

This comment on the terror attacks of 11 September 2001 came yesterday evening from TV-host Jens Blauenfeldt on DR's Aftenshowet. He now regrets his controversial statement.

"My core beliefs are definitely not anti-American, and I've had no intention of expressing myself in such a way. Now that I see my own words printed, I realise that they could be interpreted as political. In no way was that my intention, and for that I'm sorry and I regret it", Blauenfeldt says to DR's newsletter.

DR decided today that the first segment of Aftenshowet, in which the embarrassing statement was made, will not be re-broadcast as scheduled this afternoon. According to Lisbet Lambert, head of division for DR news programming, the statement of Jens Blauenfeldt is in clear violation of the rules of conduct for DR employees.

The above article, as translated by me, from today's Jyllands-Posten. Link to story in Danish.

Yes, this is the kind of human garbage that is supposed to be bringing us the news, courtesy of the license fee-financed, state run media network.

Hallelujah. And the genius couldn't even issue a properly-worded apology, when pressed to do so, presumably. (He's sorry and regrets that it was not his intention!!? OK..)

Still, he seems pleased enough with himself in this personal publicity photo which accompanied the article..

Meh. There are a lot of stupid, insensitive people out there. With my family's history of heart disease, getting worked up over every one of them might just be fatal.

      Lovely.

He is, of course, simply voicing a belief that millions upon millions of non-Americans (and a very small number of Americans) share. It's been out there ever since 9/11/01. I remember hearing it on CPTV on 9/12/01 or so.

      I suppose I'm immune now...

Did anyone in Denmark laugh at the "I'm not anti-american" comment? What sanctions are planned if such conduct is indeed a violation of his contract?

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

LOL yeah - I go to bed every night totally terrified that France are going to attack
Japher, do you care to elaborate, or am I condemned to think of you as STUPID from now on???

You wont find many people in Denmark that share his (Blauenfeldt's) point of view. For the most part, Danes are on the side of the US in this. Probably most Danes feel that the US are fvcking up the war on terror, but from that to rooting for the other side is a loooooong jump.

Bill Clinton said on his visit to Copenhagen a number of years ago, that Denmark is the US' best friend. In many ways, that is still true. We are not your most powerful friend. Certainly not your most influential friend. But there are very few countries on this planet that support the US as automatically as Denmark.

People care about Danish news people.

"Bill Clinton said on his visit to Copenhagen a number of years ago, that Denmark is the US' best friend. In many ways, that is still true."

And this is a true statement also. Now only if they knew where Denmark was or what it is.

That's a bit overdone, Pekka. We know where Denmark is.

Maybe so, but not as ridiculous as believing Clinton really really meaning that "you've been our bestestestest friend"

It's a cool thing to say when you're visiting, but when someone starts to actually believe he means it... lol

Why would you believe anything Bill Clinton says? We don't. Not even those of us who thought his Presidency was a good thing.

I honestly think, that the man had a very high degree of capacity for empathy. That doesnt mean he had undergone the same experience.

Have you ever listened to Bill Clinton in person, Arrian. I was at the Israeli embassy in the late '90s, for a memorial service for a recent terrorist attack. It hadnt been announced, IIRC, when a huge entourage showed up, aides scurrying ahead, and Bill Clinton entered the room. His speech, was, well its hard to describe, but I really did feel he felt my pain - well not exactly MY pain, of course, how could he, but that he had an insight into what we felt that was far deeper than mere pro forma condolences.

Maybe it was all 100% fake. I dont believe that. In fact I see perfect resonance between someone so emotionally, how should I say it, open, fungible, in the moment, whatever, that he CAN empathize and so well, and his own complete impulsiveness and irresponsibility on certain things.
