I'm thinking of contacting an attorney as I have a few patent ideas and want to see them through. I would have a patent search done to make sure I can patent them, get provisional patents, and then try and license or manufacturer the products myself.

Anyone have experience with this or know of a site where I can get more information or help?

One idea has electric components which I have no knowledge of, so that should be fun.

The rest I can do myself for the most part.

I've done google patent searches for 4 of the ideas I have and find stuff that is close but still waaaaaaay different. So, I think the next step should be consulting a IP attorney

Send me your ideas in an email. I'll help.

I applied for an IP attorney referral at the Cincinnati Bar Association's website this morning. I'll see how much a patent search costs and then decide.

Also, that 4 Eyed geek from American Inventor works about 5 minutes from my house at Eureka! Ranch is looking for something along the lines of one of my ideas. So, if I can patent the idea (or at least get a provisional patnet) I'll probably approach him for help in getting it liscensed.

I have to tell you Japher, this is going to be one boring thread unless you tell us (or me) what these brilliant ideas are.

The idea I want to run with now is a method to keep stupid parents from leaving infants in their car seats and letting them die from heat exposer.

When the vice principle at our jr. high killed her 2 yo a couple of weeks ago I started hypothesizing and researching and have a pretty good idea that has yet to be patented and that doesn't exist on the market and would be relatively easy and cheap to make.

I hate hearing about this every year.

Other inventions I am working on; a new design for a sanitary clamp, a novel approach for removing splinters, an alternative use for a venturi injector, a spray-on coating for wood decks that would compete with composite materials, and a wash for vinyl siding that would resist mold build up.

(Seriously though, sounds like some good stuff there Japher. )

That's better. Now we have something to talk about.

Oh, you were serious. Thought it was a joke about a recent thread...

I presume your device would work for the opposite (extreme cold)?

                  Let it rip.

a new design for a sanitary clamp,

I have to hope this is not what it sounds like...

a novel approach for removing splinters,

                  Better than dried glue?

an alternative use for a venturi injector,

                  Okay.

a spray-on coating for wood decks that would compete with composite materials,

Sounds useful. I don't suppose you would want to say what was in that?

and a wash for vinyl siding that would resist mold build up.
I could see a use for that too.

Sanitary clamps are used in pharmaceutical manufacturing in mass quantities and have a lot of issues... they hold pipes together.

                    Better than dried glue?
Not much better. That is where I started my research

                    Yup

                      Here's a freebee idea for whoever will do it, I gave the idea to an engineer at P&G at charmin, and he's done nothing;

a toilet paper tube that would double as a toilet bowl cleaner; one of those cleaners you toss in the tank

It can be tough designing and marketing a "better" mousetrap when the original trap works just fine. There are many "gadgets" on the market that are just plain silly and useless.

Also, it's even hard to get an innovation accepted.

IMO, the mp3 player is probably the fastest accepted innovation ever... go buy a walkman
