  • I just watched Dr. Strangelove...

for the first time, and it was ****ing strange. Good, but strange.

Also, for the longest time I've had this association in my head between a guy riding a nuke and this movie, but I didn't know why. As the film neared its conclusion I could see the aforementioned nuke riding coming to fruition, and I just started laughing. The other person I was watching the movie with was very confused, until it happened.

Anyways, why is this movie called Dr. Strangelove? The good doctor has one whacked out monologue but is otherwise fairly insignificant. What's with that?

Also, Dr. Strangelove's DL from awhile back finally makes sense.

Also, Ripper's weird bodily fluid thing wasn't quite as insane as I was hoping it was going to be. I blame Apolyton for this.

Dr. Strangelove is dead? I would have sworn he posted here recently. When did he die?

I am too young (and ignorant of film history) to know much about Peter Sellers, but I knew he was supposed to play multiple roles in this movie.

It was obvious to me that Strangelove and Mandrake were the same person, but I failed to notice Merkin Muffley was as well.

As for Peter Sellers movies, Being There is my absolute favourite.

It even has the funkiest ever 2001 / Zarathustra theme, it goes on for eight minutes or so.

And of course, Shirley MacLaine is in it. And Rafael..

Dr. Strangelove was really whacked out for its time. IMHO Kubrick's most compelling film.

Once the cold war stabilized and it became clear that the nukes were not imminent (or maybe we just got jaded to the threat), this film became more an amusing curiosity than the vibrant political satire and black comedy it was when first released.

This makes me want to watch it again. I suspect it has a renewed relevance.

The "vibrant political satire and black comedy" doesn't fade, it gets supplemented by the historical perspective of the era for which it was made.

For Peter Sellers, you have to see the Pink Panther movies. Not the new ones. They suck.
