Your sig reminds me, public saunas can be heaven for pedophiles since there's people of all ages. There's always some creepy guy in the dark corner sitting for hours before getting dehydrated, adn that guy usually has a ban for that public sauna.

HMmm. My kid isn't going to a public sauna alone or if so, then they wear swimming gear. That's for sure, we're going to break the rules of sauna bathing. Definitely no material for creepy guys.

It's gotta be the pedophile to always remind young kids that they can't wear swimming trunks in sauna. I remember swimming halls even had a picture that clearly says "no swimming trunks inside sauna". So if you'd go there and forget about it, don't realize you're still wearing yours, some 50 year old guy would always get upset, "Hey, lose the trunks!". Uh... now that thought is uncomfortable.

I also remember our school would sometimes give us this note that we had to give to our parents, and it basically said "Stay clear of red Toyota, the owner is a known pedophile and is hanging around the school once again".

Then my dad would tell me to not talk to the man. Weird. I do remember that there were these creeps sometimes, trying to offer something from the car. Creepy.... I mean you kind of knew they were "candy men", but it didn't feel like a serious situation. You just knew to go away and not talk to that person and warn your friends. Then I remember my friend's dad once got upset and angry when we told him that there was this guy in the car, trying to get us in but we didn't go, I mean we were maybe 12 or so. He got ****ing pissed off... I'm not kidding, he took his gun and jumped into the car and went to the road we told he was at. He got back pissed off saying he wasn't there anymore, he was clearly upset he missed an opportunity to pistolwhip the pervert. NOW I understand why he was pretty mad... but when you're a kid, you don't realize what can happen. You know you're not allowed to get in the car or talk to that man, you need to go away and you do, because your parents would get angry if you didn't. But you don't think about kidnap or rape, the "candy men" you think when you're a kid, it's like you think they might try to kiss you or something and it's yuk... Yuk yuk kissing, no way! Because you don't know about sex and you definitely don't know a lot about raping, or what could really happen to you.

I think that's the problem. But how do you warn your kids about that kind of stuff? You don't want to describe in detail what can happen and traumatize them forever.

Why would there be a rule against wearing swimming trunks in a sauna? Is this strictly a Finnish thing?

In our YMCA children under 12 are not allowed in the hot tub or the sauna. The hot tub is adjacent to the swimming pool, so bathing suits are required. The saunas are in the adult locker rooms and one may wear a bathing suit or not when using them.

There's a good reason to keep younger kids out of hot tubs and saunas. Younger children have a higher body surface area to body mass ratio, so their thermoregulatory mechanisms are more easily overwhelmed by ambient high temperatures. In the US there have been cases of kids having febrile seizures in hot tubs and saunas, and there have been cases of kids passing out and drowning in hot tubs.

We don't have a problem with penises and vaginas. FOr the record though, it's OK to wear swimming trunks in swimming halls. Maybe not so if it's only a public sauna, but if there's swimming involved, it's perfectly fine for kids to wear swimming trunks these days. Depends what kind of a place it is, how public, what kind of people usually go there etc.

I'm sure there have been cases of plenty of old people or just regular folk having trouble in saunas too. That is a ridiculous argument. Saunas and hot tubs pose no exceptional extra danger to kids and a 12 year old limit is absurd.

As for the other point I support bathing suits for people of all ages. I have as little interest in seeing 50 year old wang as 10 year old wang.

It's okay if some old person already drawing social security and all that dies in the sauna. It's a bigger problem if a kid who's already received several years of state-funded education dies.
