Anybody know what the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust is?

One dog - two threads. Must be rich.

          It's a tax dodge.

By creating a legal fiction, such as a trust, Mr. & Mrs. H divest themselves of assets. They no longer have to pay income tax or capital gains tax on any revenues generated from it. And if they're sued, the Trusts assets are not counted among their assets.

Remember: "Only little people have to pay taxes."

Yeah, but they're dead now. Where's this money going?

It stays in the Trust. There's obviously going to be a new beneficiary. Maybe even a charity or three.

BTW: Does anyone know if the dog is married?

See, that's the thing. It appears that the majority of her assets are going to this charity trust. If the trust is actually meant for a charity, it makes it slightly more difficult to call her an evil devil ***** woman from satan's *******.

I think she'd want to see her money going anywhere but to her grandchildren.

Well, that's her prerogative, and also kind of funny.

Why should you be obligated to love your grandchildren? You don't choose to associate with them and, unlike your children, you didn't even choose for them to come into existence.

They're just a product of your life. But many things are a product of your life, including your feces, several landfills, the profits of countless corporations, the terrible life of anyone who didn't get a job that you got instead, etc...

Should you love all of these things merely because they can, tangentially, be attributed to you?

Just because one of the human beings you spawned went and spawned another human being with a human completely unrelated to you - does that mean you lose the free will to choose who you love?

                          Love without choice is meaningless.

Hm? That's billions of dollars that could be going to help those less fortunate than her. Will you contribute that much to your fellow man?

She can't love them. But she should treat them fairly. She really damaged her family by only giving some family members money and not the rest of them. You shouldn't have to kiss grandma's ass to get a fair share of family inheritance.
