A few civs from that list should be killed before Spain, which:

- Unlike Egypt or Syria or Persia or much of India or what used to be the byzantine empire, Spain resisted arabisation and islamisation.

- Was heavily involved in changing the world forever, from 1492 with the discovery of America, circumnavigation of the world, changing the world economy with all the silver and gold entering from the Americas, (and also bringin down the islamic economy, which relied on arab monopoly of the indian ocean) and all their involvement in their wars against turks and protestants till the XVIII century and the counter reformation jesuits.
A big chunk of the people which nowadays are christian, are christian because of what Spain (and Portugal did) in those centuries, + they managed to create a new large ethni cultural group in latin america of hundreds of millions of people.

-And also, El Quijote is generally regarded as the first modern novel
