  • Finns are stupid

    It's true.

Not only because of the overwhelming support of the current system, but also because of the logic behind keeping up with the large army.

It makes no sense from defensive point of view, it makes no sense cost wise, it makes the least sense from the freedom point of view.

It's seen as a responsibility. It sucks but hey, what can you do about it, right? The biggest factor in it is that "I had to go through with it, so you should have to go through it as well". Some of these "patriotic" Finns think we should all do it because that's what you have to do, period. Well, if you're a patriot, then it would make sense for wanting the best possible defense, right? These same "patriots" also have these illusions about the effectiveness of this large army. It worked well back in the 40s, it works well now.

That's BS. The face of the war has changed a long time ago. "We can't defend our borders" because it's so long.. so what? If it's war, the point is not to keep the border clean, the idea is to win the fight and it won't take place on the border. The border issue will be settled when the war is over. It doesn't matter when the war is on.

So. You're not defending the border. During peace time you're defending the border, but during war time? Nope. You're defending yourself and the independency. The border issue is seconday, it doesn't define itself automatically if someone walks across with a gun.

"We can't defend all the lands if we have less soldiers". Well, we aren't supposed to do that, we're supposed to fight the enemy where it counts. So basically these are the arguments. None of them makes sense.

So you force some kids there, you don't even pay them for it, and you're supposed to thank for it, because at least you weren't sodomized in the butt. "Boy becomes a man in the service". BS. A boy becomes a man when he acts like a man, regardless where he's at. He becomes a man when he accepts the real responsibilities of a man and draft isn't one of them.

The reason why many do the service is because of the social pressure. If they don't do it, their fathers will be disappointed at them, their mothers will think they're fags, their friends say it's OK but they're still the guy who didn't go through with it. You'll carry that stigma, plus, when ever you try to get a job, it always comes up. Maybe it doesn't matter at all, but many times it actually does matter a little bit. So some go through with ti because they don't want to hassle with the recruiters outside the army. They dont' want to admit they didn't go.

I'm not saying we shouldn't have an army. I'm saying we should have a better one, based on professionals and also REAL volunteer spirit. I would have still gone, even if I didnt' have to. I liked it in there. I was sad when it was all over, figured I might go for a career there. But it isn't for everyone. So you'll spend anywhere from 6 months to a year, working for free, long days and nothing else going on. Because everyone else had to do it in the past.

Then everyone, and it's _always_ middle aged ******, cry and shout that the youth today.. blaablaablaa... when he had to... whatever! When that dude was young he was an idiot and he never grew up. What an accomplishment. These older guys, who actually are veterans etc., they're usually saying that the youth is good, they're doing well, they're smart, they're going to do just well. We have been a lot nicer to the veterans than the middle aged ******, that would be their own children. They denounced them in the 60s, 70s and 80s. They weren't allowed to talk. They were enemies of everything. They rebelled so much that in their quest for communism and socialism that they never let their fathers be proud of their war, or talk about it. They were traitors. The logic is weird, so now these same ****** are telling that the youth is all rotten, they can't even do their responsibility and would rather do something else.

OF COURSE many would rather do something else, what are you, a ****ing idiot? Is it wrong? The fact is we don't need them and they know it. We don't need 30k young people serving every year. A lot less will do just fine. Maybe they'll do even better, since volunteers are motivated and they would have bigger requirements to get into it. Hey, they could be paid as well!!!! Wow, imagine that. Being paid for doing a job.

So Finns are stupid. The reasoning is idiotic, it doesn't make us any safer, but it only costs a lot plus you're forcing generations of young men into... well I guess it coudl be called slavery in a way.

And I've talked to several privates because I was their superior and trained them. You can see that many of them don't want to be there, but you have to kick them so they'll function, it's not an excuse that you don't want to be there. But then you talk to them, individually many of them admits that they would be embarrased to quit because their father would prolly dislike them after that. Well you have a problem if some dude thinks his son is any lesser of a man because they figured army wasn't for them. But that's the reality of the situation.

We'll keep slamming our heads to the wall. Of course there's always highly motivated folks, folks with skills and all that, but we need more of them and less of the others. I advocate free thinking and not crumbling under social pressure.

So the choice is either service in the army or civil service - or jail.

Even though politically many of these prisoners tend to kind of... be something I absolutely don't like, but when it comes to following your own thoughts through and if you feel that you shouldn't be forced to serve the country for a year for no other reason than "well it's what you have to do"... and choose jail instead, I have respect for them.

A lot more respect than for the guys who loudly say these guys are traitors and pussies. No the aren't. They had the balls to go to jail for their own view of the situation. They didn't do anything wrong and they went to jail for it. These "patriots" act as if they're defending our nation adn these guys are letting us all down.

Well we aren't at war, I haven't seen these loud mouth jerks defending anything and I knwo this is the highlight of their life since they won't accomplish anything else, but it really is just showing how big idiots they are. National security just didn't drop because few guys went to jail.

Besides, speaking from experience, most of these bigger "patriots" are usually below average soldiers. This is just a fact. They usually are slow thinkers, they don't know what to do, they can't follow instructions, they can't keep their **** together. So these guys rarely make it anywhere in the army. They come in and they're always "staying for a career", but they rarely do, because they aren't quality soldiers to begin with. But they like to talk a lot.

It's ironic that most of the folks I found skilled and we got things done pretty well... they were usually just guys who took it as a joke. They didn't have to try, because things were pretty simple. Not a single foaming patriot ever functioned in that level during my time. None. Not a single one. They were also extremely illusioned about the army, war and their own abilities. They were _losers_ in all aspects of life.

by the way, I saw the best leader in there as well. He was staff though, so he was going for a career. This one big shot told us to follow him and learn, that he will go far definitely. I agree. The dude was the perfect leader. I can't even explain it what made him so good. He just was. Very intelligent, a good leader, tough dude, everything in the same package. LIke one of those freaks you see, guys who can do everything excellent and then some.

Hear hear, this man speaks the truth.

I was there for awhile, and about 70% of the blokes there, I wouldn't trust a banana to them, let alone an assault rifle. (Sadly, I'm in that 70%.) I would not want myself in a foxhole with me, is all I'm saying.

I respect the generation of my late granddad, who went to the army, and had to fight in the war. Thanks to them, I have a choice in the matter.

I could not say it as eloquently.

Right, and these jerks take the credit as if they are some kind of defending heroes, but they never had to do war. A person who would take that as the baseline for their view is... an illusion.

But even if you choose to not go there, you're still trapped. That's crap.

It's the worst excuse ever, that you have to waste your time because someone else had to do that also. The horrible arguments, that someone ALWAYS brings up is that it's a good school for young men. That, plus it's good outdoors activity so people might get more fit.

Uhmm, what? So you support a mandatory camp for young men like that for that reason? What are you, a fascist? What the ****? Sometimes they don't even realize it, I guess most of the times they don't. "It's good for you!". Well let me decide what's good for me, ok?

So, have you got the men, experience and firepower to take on Sweden yet? They're getting a bit complacent lately.

I don't have the patience to read your long posts Pekka, but Sweden needs the Finnish army to keep Putin out, as our standing army has been reduced from invasion deterrent to an international rapid deployment and peacekeeping force of 2 brigades or something. In exchange, you can have some advantage from of our 130 JAS fighters and our stealth subs and stealth ships.

Look at it this way: if the Finnish army became a professional, all-volunteer force, it would be just a matter of time until it got sent abroad to combat by politicians. I know it would happen because I would do it if I was a politician and had a setup like that. And if someone complained they'd just say "hey, they're volunteers, what do you care?" like they do in the US.
