My nephew wants a computer for school, gaming and LAN parties. Do have any recommendations?
For example, Dell currently offers the following deal for $1,399 CDN. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6600 (4MB L2 Cache,2.4GHz,1066 FSB), english
Genuine Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium Edition
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 2 DIMMs
22 inch E228WFP Widescreen Digital Flat Panel
500GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cacheâ„¢
1 Year Next Business Day Onsite/In Home Service and Tech Support
256MB nVidia GeForce 8600 GTX
Is the videocard good enough? Are the Nvidia drivers still problematic? 2 GB seems too much, but maybe this the new standard in this Vista age? And are there special considerations for LAN parties?
(Yes, I already posted this on the tech thread. This is a test. I just want to know how much responses I'll get here in comparison to the tech thread. Shouldn't be too hard: The tech thread is dead, nobody goes there.)
