I'm off this weekend to play on an island in the middle of a lake.
2000 balls - plenty of targets - nowhere to run!!

I do. Prepare to have a great time. And remember, a tree is not cover. If you have as much as a foot sticking out eventually you will be hit.
This goes with holes in bunker walls, no matter how small. You would be amazed how easily paintballs find there way through them.
Also, little kids are your worst enemies. Adults are out there for a novelty experiance for the most part. Kids are out there every weekend, beware.
Paintballs go fast, you usually never need to shoot more than three rounds at any one time. Don't waste them on cover fire if no one has the balls to actually advance either.
And lastly, RUSH YOUR OPPONENT. Most people just hole up behind cover, but you would be amazed how many don't expect you to rush and freeze when you do.

We had one guy last year dressed in full padded armour (jumpsuit stuffed with padding). He was an easy target since his mobility was crap but unfortunately he could not feel any pain as we hit him.

Little kids generally sucked. Sure, they were good aims, but they didn't have any strategic vision or 'balls'. Of course, they were better then some marines we played with once.
The best were the teenagers.

Yeah, when I say kids I am think 12-16 year olds.
I've played Laser tag when 'kids' before. I know what you mean.
Laser tag is fun but the pain of paintball focuses the mind somewhat.

I usually have so much energy I don't feel pain, it is fun letting the gf find all the bruises I didn't know I had (especially when playing in the winter time).
I used to fear paintballs until I was shot a few times with sim rounds...

Last summer at this event I came home with several wounds.
- Bruise on my chest (through the chest protector dammit!)
- Bump on the back of my head (close range head shot - a foul)
- Scrapes down one arm from a reckless evasion maneuver

I usually get shot on the shoulder from shooting from cover.
Every once and awhile though one finds its way into the side of my abdomen, those leave the best bruises
You wear a chest protector?

When I was doing some various training they had to beat out of us the tendancy to show your side to the theat. It is natural to try and lower you profile. Unfortunetly since most armored vests have the max protection concetrated on the front and back with the sides unprotected for mobility, alot of people were getting killed by bieng shot straight through from one side to the other.
They had some gruesome pictures, so now I automatically square up on a threat. Not so good for paintball though.

played out in LA and it was a blast, captured the flag in one game
as for tree cover, depends on the tree I got cornered in a bush/tree with lots of little branches overhanging the 2 entrances and I was surrounded by 4-5 enemies all blasting away as I dove back and forth behind the 2 entry points. One person could have easily walked up and hit me point blank cuz I was busy dodging attacks but they just sat back and plugged away. Finally they called for the ref to come in and confirm my death - he couldn't find a solid hit, just splatter, and I walked I swear, I never felt one hit me but the tree and I was covered in paint.
One game everyone decided to lay back and play defense, so I volunteered to go try for their flag. I was up high on a road overlooking the battlefield, good to see troop movements, but easy to be seen too. I spotted the enemy moving up the middle thru the thickest foliage so I laid low until they disappeared. They were followed by a couple guys defending their backs so once they moved into some trees I took off running in the direction of their flag. They split up and one guy started backtracking along the high road I was on, but I had already run past him so I was in between him and the flag and he was walking backwards toward me while looking the other way. He walked right into point blank range, turned towards me and I nailed him. The look on his face as that pellet hit him was , not just pain but the look of surprise. He couldn't figure out how I got behind him, hehe. I got the flag anyway
I've played about ten times, and it's great fun, but it has been a while since last time. Playing against unexperienced people, I totally pwn, and after I purchased a semi marker I could occationally hit a few experienced players as well.
I need to find friends who are committed to go trough the pain of being owned by me and pay the money the ball cost. Those are rare.

Hence our adult group. The cost is not a factor (time is harder to come by).
