  • a question about debating politics

Ive had been witness to two RL discussions of the 2008 presidential campaign in the last week.

At the first, where everyone was suitably lubricated by alcohol, and fairly jolly, I defied some pretty right wing Republicans ("McCain, hes against teh free speech, Romney maybe OK though") by defending teh eevil Socialist Hillary Clinton.

At another, QOTM was in a discussion with some other women, one of whom was very "progressive" and who said that she could never vote for Hillary, cause Hillary by her vote in 2003 showed she preferred to kill people rather than stand up to Bush lies. Rather than defend teh eevil warmonger Hilary, I decided to keep silent, for QOTMs sake. Needless to say that discussion was not jolly, or well lubricated.

What Im wondering, is there anyway I could put Ms Pure Peacenik in the room with teh Eevil GOPniks, and they could just explode in a kind of matter - antimatter reaction?

Alternatively, can I just go to sleep till January 2009, when Hillary and her VP, Bill Richardson, are sworn in?

That would be nice, wouldn't it?

I've actually gotten some people together whose political views are dramatically opposed, but there was no annihilation. Which is good, considering they're both friends.

I have to be so careful when discussing politics at work. I just limit myself to correcting people's misinformation.

I've been fired twice for discussing politics in work...why...because I DID more than discuss. QOTM sounds like a really powerful, strong masculine and articulate woman who could hold her own in a barfight. I'd recommend pitting her against the GOPniks and the non-lubricated old hag. See what develops in the way of an ass kicking

Actually she basically ignored the "eevil Hilary is a warmonger" thing and turned the convo to a discussion of Edwards' views on education.

Discussing politics with people who get overly emotional about it is pointless. They're usually ignorant, and won't listen to opposing views.

This will get you into trouble, especially if you work with a bunch of Republicans...

politics is the virtue of manipulation where everyone argues, they die, we win and I get rich. (that is active involment)

however politics for a "normal" person ie regular citizen is an exercise in futility where everyone argues, they win, we pay, and I waste time on...

If so, it must mean that he hired him twice, and that must be even worse
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Was Wiglaf the poster who was always having sex with his workmates, or was that someone else?

No...my boss encouraged her workers to have sex with her to maintain/get their positions but I was no office slut.

She was probably a democrat, too.
