    Meteor shower to peak Sunday

The annual Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak Sunday night, with the most activity between midnight and dawn.

The combination of a moonless night and a peak that favors North America should make for excellent viewing, experts said. The meteors will appear in all parts of the sky, but experts suggest looking toward the darkest areas. The shower will continue for two more weeks.
It's more exciting than watching submarine races.

It should be good, with the new moon.

I used to watch this when I lived in a city that didn't have massive light pollution (and, well, regular pollution)

Not likely to see it in Chicago though...

I just tried to explain to my father in law, a neat, very honorable old Filipino guy that there is going to be a metior shower tonight. "Pa, metior shower tonight, rocks from space light up the sky. You know rocks from space?" Pa: "Ya, it's cold."

I drove out to the desert once to watch them. It was a cool experience.

About 4 a.m., I started driving back into L.A.....and hit a traffic jam.

Sloww just says there's a new moon. He didn't say he could see it.
