    Know anything about the Spratly Islands?

    Claimed by a bunch of countries incl China, Vietnam, and the Philippines, nobody lives there but guess what's there?

    No, that's not it.

    Yes! You got it! Oil!

    There have been shots fired in anger over the years, a Vietnamese ship sunk iirc, national ownership markers destroyed, etc.

    The CIA considers it a hotspot since the Philippines is our bud.

    So, here's an update. There is no Chinese comment, and I'm wondering what their take is on the situation, anyone know?

              Isn't the whole Pacific pretty much our lake? I say just park a destroyer off it - the people in that area should remember what happened last time they attacked one of those.

                        When the UN gets its own army it'll be free to make a claim... paradoxically, the only chance we have for global cooperation at any substantial level is if the UN becomes an independent threat and power.

                        Australia should claim Antarctica, burn its prodigious coal deposits and wait for the melting to reveal a bonanza!

                          Some years ago and I mean years (mid to late 80's), China claim them, and said at the time they would used militarty force to keep them. There is suppose to be a lot of OIL and other minerals there.
